Jimmy camper... Ever see one???

Looked at this the other day. I have never seen such a thing. This bolts down like the top would and the windows would roll up to a seal on the camper. It was cool!

Very cool! Never seen one, I wonder if it was a custom fit job, or if a company did a short run of them. Nice rig either way.

That's too cool to pass on if you have the chance to buy it - that's just plain cool.

That thing is cool, wheels and all. I remember seeing some back in the day. When Blazers first came out it was just like with Jeeps, use them for any number of uses. Just as much for utility as for sport. They used to put campers on CJ5s with tag wheels behind. This is where K/5s broke through being the first full-size of it's kind.

That is probably the coolest thing I have seen in a while. Did you buy it. I would love to own something like that.

I had one on a blazer I picked up out of Colorado. I ended up selling it on the blazer parts forum this summer.

I think these can still be built. but you need to hack up a a hard top to attach to the window frame

might be $ though

Looks like a really good home made version, I don’t know how well the windshield frame would hold up to the weight of having a bed above it.

There are manufacturered first gen Blazer campers out there.

Mine. Four Wheel Campers stopped production on this model in the early 80's. I have never seen a full hard sided camper on a Blazer (other than the Chalet). Wonder how much it weights. Pretty darn cool.

Now that's different! I run across 4Wheel brand slide-ins for 2nd & 1st gen Blazers and Jimmys in my never-ending hunt for Chalets and the GMC Casa Grande version to chalk down in my mega-spreadsheet list of all the ones ever produced, but I haven't seen one of these before either.

Got more pics? Any sign of a manufacturer logo/factory stickers anywhere on it? Very factory-looking, if it was a one-of custom.

Correct, most that I have seen are slide in and/or pop up type. I think he said it was built for this rig when it was close to new and he also thought this may have been the first jimmy to be sold in MN in 1970.
We are discussing if I should own it yet...

UPDATE: the seller has decided to keep this one, so it won't be coming home to my stable...

Re: Jimmy camper... Ever see one???

Bummer, but good for the seller, I suppose. Would be nice to determine if the camper was a one-off custom build that was supposed to look just like an aftermarket company product, or if it was actually a terribly rare aftermarket company product.

I had one person contact me who swore he knew of a GM factory Blazer/Jimmy camper that predated the '76-'77 Chalet / Casa Grande, but all I could point to was the "Blazer Sports Camper" prototype concept rig. I doubt that what this guy has is a GM factory concoction, but one never really knows.

Re: Jimmy camper... Ever see one???

The top was supposedly made right after the jimmy was sold new. So it would not be a factory item. The owner says he has the original top and rear seat that looks like it was never sat in. I didn't see those however.

Re: Jimmy camper... Ever see one???

Hello to all,
I will tell you all the mystery about the camper on the 1972 blazer & the GMC Model. I own one of these rare classics, that my father ordered brand new in the fall of 1971. He ordered a Hugger Orange 4WD K/5 Blazer from Griesbach Chevrolet in Hortonville, Wisconsin. This Camper was OKed From General Motors, and if you wanted a camper on the blazer ,the dealership would take your vehicle to Ronco Camper Company in Osseo, Minnesota and build the camper on the blazer. It was not meant to be taken off. You could get a door on the back or use your tailgate and have a fold up window ,like a topper. The Blazer I have has 63000 miles on it and is in very good condition considering is is a wisconsin vehicle. I will send pics soon. The 1977 Blazer Chalet was built right at the factory. The 1972 Model was taken from the dealerships to Minnesota, Including the Canadian built Blazers.

Now, that's interesting! One fellow ran across a year or three back insisted there was a 'factory' Blazer/Jimmy camper prior to the Chalet & Casa Grande, but I hadn't seen any evidence to prove it, and he had none to offer besides some kind of recollection about it and/or seeing one.

The more info you can share along with photos, the better, it should help solve this mystery.
