Newbie post here - 72 K5 2WD resto project
 

I finally talked my dad I to trading me his 72 K5 for my Harley... That he was going to give me 25 years ago and never happened haha. It's always been my dream and it's in pieces but I'm ready to put it together as it was taken apart for partial resto 15 years ago and never completed.

My main questions are basic bolt ons... Is it just as well to order from LMC catalog and bolt in what I can find or are there better sites for interior and exterior parts?I don't care about holy grail of original as I never plan to sell it... I want to enjoy it for many years and cruise at the beach spring to fall with no top.

Current build:
Motor: 350, bored 40 over with mother thumper cam
Trans: 90's Z28 Camaro 5-speed
Radiator: aluminum with electric fans
Gauges: electronic cluster replacement
Complete rewire kit started
LED lights all around

Needs:
Rims and tires (2WD lowered stance - prefer newer look over rally)
Paint scheme
Interior- deciding between buckets and buddy bench (for my kiddo) up front
Flooring- is carpet or rubberized underlayment better?

Welcome to the board. I love my Blazer and plan to drive it until the day I die.

The cam you picked is designed for sound rather than performance. That's OK if you just want the sound, but there are better choices available.

My dad built the motor and that was the cam he chose. I'm not really looking to race so it should probably do fine in my application as a coastal cruiser.

As far as the carpet vs. rubber question, how do you plan to use it? Is it going to be a cruiser, or are you planning on trips to the beach?

Great question! Not a great answer in my part though... It is a 2WD so I will not be driving it out on the beach but will be cruising to the beach quite often as we live 20 minutes from the ocean and I have a boat... It will inevitably have sand from my 6 year old caked in carpet when I can't stop her in time.

We have a number of board members who are vendors like LMC but much better customer service. Get the LMC catalog and shop e-local ;-)

You might want to go with a rubber floor with some nice carpeted mats... it would be much easier to clean than carpet.

That's not a cruising cam. Duration is too high. If you want to stick with Comp cams, look at the 268H. The cam you have now will increase heat and kill your fuel mileage.
If it was me, I would definitely be changing it especially if you have taller tires and stock 3.08:1 gear ratio.

This is a fairly mild cam, and you could go up one. For a daily driver or just cruising around, I feel this would be a good choice. Knowing your tire size and gear ratio would help in making a more accurate decision.

I will certainly keep that in mind! Right now I have shop rollers but plan to have low profile 50-series (somewhere around there) tires since it is 2WD.

Ah yeah, my bad. I forgot that it's 2wd.
I sort of know what look you're after now, so maybe that cam you have will be OK to cruise around. It would sound good.
