Aftermarket Frames?
 

With all the street rod trucks out there, somone has to be making frames. I'm looking for an aftermarket frame for my 72 SWB?

Check out the november 2006 issue of classsic trucks. They revue a new chassis on page 63! It is from jim meyer racing.

Yep, for $9K (plus tax and truck freight) you too can have a new frame assembly :crazy: .

That frame does look nice. But I would rather build my own after seeing some of the great works of art on this board. I would thing I could do a modified C4 setup for $8k, but you know how that whole budget thing goes.

These guys are right down the road from me, awesome. Maybe I can get a more reasonable deal on what I need. I don't want any suspension or mounts. I want a bare frame so I can add on a my own custom suspension.

Just curious, if all you want is a frame why don't you strip a stock frame and put your own suspension on it.

So for you guys at home that have cleaned, rebuilt and updated a frame what has it cost you?

$8995 does seem like a lot, but how close to that would I be if I bought a used SWB frame and then cleaned and finished the frame, rebuilt the entire front end, added big brakes, put new motor mounts in and did a 4 bar rear suspension? I don't think it would be that much less.........

thats a nice looking chassis and thats tabout the going price for a quality streetrod framew with no chrome// i would like to see a bit more bracing in it like a stout K-member for a real rigid unit

It is a nice piece but what are you gaining unless you don't have a good frame to start with? You can buy tubular control arms and coil overs or air bags for the stock front end and save a bunch. On the rear NASCAR still uses our truck's original truck arm design in Nextel cup so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

That's what I was getting at, and if you need more strength you can always box the stock one.

That frame seems to be stepped in the front (or Z'd) and the back has a step to avoid having to notch it. This frame is going to make you mega low.

those brakes are smaller then stock, so no, those arnt big brakes....

yeah your options on there frame are anywhere from stock to a 4 inch step in front... and stock to a 10 inch step out back

I'd have to straighten my frame, box it, add support and sandblast it. That's a lot of effort if I can buy one for a reasonable cost. $9,000 isn't what I had in mind but I don't kneed any of their suspension so I hope the cost would come down significantly.

Art Morrison offers new frames as does fatman fabracations
Art Morrison ones have corvette options reasonably priced and they look better than the Jimmy Meyer ones,plus, not first hand, offer much better customer service

I see. If you don't mind the stock frame you could always buy just the frame. I have seen them for sale in the classifieds section.
