Th400 New or rebuild

Should I send it to the local shop for rebuild with some upgraded parts or buy a new one? The quote right now is $1250.00 to have me take it to them and get a rebuild with "upgrades" I'm assuming upgrades mean premium parts.

This will be used in my 71 with a 402, both the engine and trans are the originals. The engine will have mild work at some point (375HP) range.

Anyone here in/near Sacramento, CA that can do the work or perhaps I can even ship to someone? Or purchase new from you? Let me know thank you!

Re: Th400 New or rebuild

Building a 100% new TH400 costs a small fortune.
A stock rebuilt TH400 will handle 375 hp.

My base TH400 is $750, No core needed.
Includes......
4L80E Forward Hub (Stronger than a TH400 piece)
Rollerized Output
Dual Fed Direct Clutch
4L80E spirolock intermediate sprag retainer
Sonnax Boost Valve & PR spring
Pump gears
Borg Warner hi energy forward & intermediate frictions
Raybestos face grooved hi energy direct frictions
New lo/reverse band
All new bushings, seals & filter
Stock rebuilt converter, $100.

Upgrades if you plan on more power in the future....
4L80E 34 element sprag & direct drum, $200.
HD spirolock intermediate clutch snap ring, $16.
High rate direct clutch return springs, $25. Not Trans Go junk!
Reverse servo shim, $26.
190psi PR Spring
These upgrades will allow for up to 600 hp.

Above 600 hp, A billet Input shaft, Forward Clutch Hub & 215 psi PR spring are recommended. I do have some super low mileage Jaguar Cryo Treated input shafts living in 800hp trans brake cars......But with entry level Billet shafts costing around $200 now, Roll with billet if needed.

PM me if interested.
