Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
Im trying. It is going to be close. I had a little snag the first part of April.. The snag has left me with a lot of heartache and a ton of work to clean up my grandfathers estate and try to get it sold. I will hopefully have some progress pics this weekend and alittle more of an update!!!!!

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
Sorry to hear about your grandfather. The truck is looking very good. My friend's Dad had a 53 chevy the length of a crew cab but it was only a 2 door. He sold it about 10 years ago. I'll see if I can find some pics of it. It was aweome. It was tubbed with a LT1 and he built a very sweet step side box for it as well. It was painted metallic blue.

Im looking at building a crew cab or at least an extended cab. have a baby on the way and cant imagine life without a hotrod. I have 6 cabs so I have lots to play with just would like to get some ideas before I come up with a plan. I like the idea of no gap between the doors. would love to see more! thanks heres a pict of my daily driver.

New to board. Very interested in your project. How is your progress going? I have three cabs and two frames, one completely stock one with a camaro front clip. Thinking of doing a crew cab also, I have two kids need the extra room for them to come along. I modifield a picture in paint of what I'm planning on, in has a 2" chop and the bed has been shorted like the newer trucks to keep the truck shorter. Let me know what you think. Your truck looks great!

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
Thanks, When you did the roof skin did you flange and weld or but weld the sheet metal? Also did you hand bend the metal or did you have a roller. What size are your wheels? When you streched your frame did you notch it or make a straight cut with fish plates. Sorry for all of the questions but im trying to get all the info together. Did you have to modify the rear door to met the contour of the rear of the front door ( not the window frames). Have you got your door hinges yet?
|
Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
We used a roller for the roof skin and then just butt welded it. It still needs alot of work with the drip rails. The wheels are 20x10.5 in the rear and 20x8.5 up front. When we stretched the frame they were diagnal cuts with diamond plates welded in and outside of the rails. I am going to have to completely rework the doors to get the upper body lines under the windows to line up. I ordered the hinges back in Feb and finially got them in the first part of April and have not had a chance to do any thing with them. Hopefully my grandparents place will sell and i can have the time and attention i need to focus on this project and get it done. Thank you for all of your interest and maybe i can get trucking on it again real soon. Until then i will keep collecting parts and be ready when the time is right. Thanks Again guys!!!!!!!

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
I found this truck on Ebay for sale. Looks like they did a pretty good job except for the windows they used on the side for the extended part. They look like they came out of the s10 everything else came from, too new, they do not match.

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
Wow I can,t believe my good luck! I am a new member and just logged on to introduce myself, and lo and behold , the latest post is about my next planned project. ........Stretched crew cab................
I am just finishing up a major re-do of a 1955 Chevy 2dr. post car and have a couple of A.D. trucks waiting to be transformed into a stretched crew cab. I may be a newby to this site ,but I have quite a few years of fabrication, welding ,painting, bodywork, upholstery etc. under my belt and do most everything myself. This is not to suggest however ,that I think I know it all!Far from it.... I look forward to participating in this forum and learning and sharing knowledge with it,s members. Just happy to be here:) |

Re: Pics of a 47-54 crew cab???
Hi solidaxel,, That is one really nice looking stretch you,ve got going there!
Proportionatley the stretch looks just about perfect. How much did you add to the length. Did you use extra doors to fill the gap or fabricate from sheet? Looking good! Post some more pic,s as you progress pls. |

Thanks, I think the additional length was determined by cutting the front (3 window) off as long as we could and the 5 window right behind the door and slipping them together and moving them out a bit at a time and standing back to take a look to see how it looked.
The vertical section is 18ga. for the filler we lapped the roof and floor, the roof to keep the crown, and the floor we used 1 1/2" angle for support. Now what do you do with the left over parts ????? |

Been laying low for a few monthes and finally have some thing to share with every one. If you remember my grand father passed and i had alot on my plate. Hopefully 2011 will be better then 2010. I had a great christmas and my loving wife bought me exactly what i wanted. She got me a motor and tranny for the crew cab project. It is a 82 model small block and has pretty low miles. I finally got good enough weather to take some time and get it cleaned up and dressed to impress!!! let me know what you guys think....
