700R4 Driveshaft question

Boys - I’m getting close to installing a 700R4 in place off my 350TH. I’ve measured both transmissions and the 700 is about 3” longer. The existing driveshaft in the truck is a split with hanger bearing that I want to keep in case I want to change back to the 350 someday.

Should I just have a new single shaft made up for this application? Or should I find another primary shaft and have it shortened to work with the existing split setup?

If you go with a one piece drive shaft chances are that you will have to remove the bracket that your carrier bearing mounts to otherwise there will be interference with the drive shaft as it passes through this crossmember. If you go back to a 350 which I doubt you could use a one piece driveshaft for it too!

have one made or cut down one trhats too long for what you need, have to find one in junk yard under something GM with a 700r4 or a 3 or 4 speed car tranny or a th350

doesnt matter if U joints are wrong size, conversion joints can be gotten at napa although they are pricier, around 27 bucks each sometimes more

can have shafts made for 150 or 200 these days at driveline shops
