Hello from Texas
I finally bought a project- and it certainly is that haha

She needs a lot of lovin' but I'm happy to finally have a classic.

My end goal is to have a hot 6, add AC, and just make it nice. Whatever I decide that means.
I want the 6 because every car show I've ever been to, all of the C10's I've seen are SBC, BBC, or LS. Doing my research as well as talking to Tom at 12 Bolt, I've decided it can still be a strong runner and fun to drive.

I will be on here with a lot of questions I'm sure.

Welcome Aboard! Looks like a good start. Is it a 250 or a 292? I'm glad to hear you're staying with the 6. They are fun to work on. And just a warning, folks around here love pictures. So don't be shy. :lol:

Originally a 292 truck but has a 250 now. Not sure how many owners back that happened.
It's pretty vanilla, has the factory 3 speed Sag right now but I have a 4 waiting to be rebuilt for it.
Most of my pictures are on my other computer, I'll have to see about grabbing them!

Welcome , if you need a power steering set up for it I can help you out ,they tend to be hard to come by . Looking forward to more pics .

This is what is coming down from CO with a buddy who is moving down.
My engine runs but the crank snout is shot. I can pull it off nearly all the way by hand. Not to mention the super-hokey accessory brackets made out of welded parts.

Cool deal, I too am glad you're staying inline. I'm wanting AC in my 67, hot and humid is were I live now, and your in Texas!. In for the ride

Looks like a nice project, the 6 cyc. is a good engine. I'm currently having my truck painted, but when it's back I will be pulling the 250 w/auto and installing a 292 with a 200-4R along with Vintage air. Just installed the plate on the firewall so it would be painted and drilled holes in the dash for the 3 air vents before it is painted. I opted for the compressor to be installed on the passenger side with lines going straight into the firewall. Like yours the PS and Alt. are on the drivers side.

You going with a 4 speed automatic? or manual? More trans gear spacing will help....A 292 would be only 6 I'd want (if possible).

I'm a Texas transplant to A&M Country, Colorado born and raised- had to get away from the cost of living, housing, crime, and drug increases. Love our new area- the humidity definitely takes some getting used to.

This will be a long term project, I have a 5 year old daughter and 4 year old son and my wife stays at home for now so I'm on a shoestring for the time being, but it will be fun.

I've never done body work and this puppy needs a lot of it- the floor is.... rough. I'm likely looking at a whole new floor. The windshield seam is also rotten on the drivers top side. I need to change the windshield so when I get her back to the house (shes at the shop now) I'll get the glass out and assess the situation better.
I need to strip the interior out and examine it further. I've been looking at some of the builds and looking for common areas- I'm suspicious of the cowl ducts as I saw some debris in there.

I noticed someone mention LMC isn't the best source for some sheet metal. Can anyone recommend some site vendors?
Any recommendations on wiring harnesses? I've seen several sources, including LMC. Thoughts?

4 Speed Saginaw manual is the plan for now. Its sitting on the garage floor now.

Project looks similar to the one I just took on. Mostly finished it now after about a year. Replaced the rusted cab supports, rockers and floor pan areas. It is always worse than it looks initially. The biggest expense for me other than time was the welder (plus other tools here and there). I also redid the entire interior, gauges, stereo system. Replaced all the rubber window gaskets and had to reseam the drip rails and do minor rust repair around the window opening. Now, while waiting for my kids to get their liscence I get to drive it daily and its been lots of fun.

One local place for 67-72 parts is Outback Truck Parts in Spring. Comparable prices and no shipping. The quality of the parts they carry has been much better than LMC and you get to see the parts as they have everything in stock. I know there is a guy in Belton that has used truck and carries lots of new stuff as well but he doesnt do the internet (Greens Restoration-I think).

Dont know about the wiring issue as mine was all original and unspliced.

Let me know if I can help in any way. I was in College Station last weekend for a Cross Country race but I don't get up there as much as I would like but my daughter is looking into going to A&M so I hope to visit often.

I got a 69 that is in a little worst shape, but I've always wanted a 67-72. I got 2x 250 inliners for under $200. I love them with 3 on the tree. Im west of you a bit, but welcome and let me know if you ever head towards the Killeen area.

I would guess with the low options and special paint it was a commercial truck. Looks like it was a nice green when it left the factory. The green and parchment interior, good stuff!

I have always been partial to the GM Blue, but the green is kind of nice too- I might try to play off of that theme a bit.

Parchment eh? I wasn't sure what to call the interior and I haven't looked up the RPO's for the special paint yet.

I've been up to Waco a few times and have seen the signs for Killeen, but haven't ventured that way yet! Maybe I'll try to convince my wife to let us go visit the base museums and check out the town!


Oh wow- I am still getting used to the classic Chevy world- I didn't even notice that it has a 67-68 hood on it! It is a 69 by VIN.

If it has a 67-68 hood, the rest of the front clip is of same year, also. Hood has to stay with clip to work, no choice, there.

I'm off till Tuesday but may try to swing out to the shop for more pictures-
I wonder if it was in a wreck at some point or if someone did it for cosmetic reasons?
Come to think of it the paint under the white on the front clip and hood is red haha

What other verification can be done?

Lots of things can happen over time, who knows why the front was swapped. Plenty of folks prefer the 67-68 front, I’d bet someone liked that front better. Or that was the cheapest option after a front end crunch.
Either way, nice start. Your paint looks better than my 5 color pile of parts!

The 200-4R is a 4 speed automatic. I looked a long time for a 69 model, simply because I had bought a new one in the fall of 68. It was a long box, Burgundy with a 250 and 3 Ott. had a step bumper and a heater, that was about it. It was 2160.00 out the door in Sept of 68 in Detroit. Welcome to the board, enjoy your truck.

Well oops haha
I was reviewing some of my pictures today and saw one of the side of the trans in it now. Different shape than the Sag 4 I have in the garage. 4 bolt side cover. Well I'll be, I have a Muncie 3-spd haha
I just took for granted what the PO owner told me; Saginaw 3-speed. Good old learning curves.

Sooooo.......

Does anyone know some things to look out for to swap over? I know the bolt-up to the bell is the same, but what about the opening? Will I need a spacer? Is the output slip yoke the same, or will I need to have the driveshaft re-done?
