outer tie rod stud too short.

After searching for at least an hour to no avail I now throw my dilemma out in hopes some one can confirm what is going on with my Burban. It is a 67 with disks and I believe 71 - 72 spindles. My question has to do with the outer tie rod ends. They don't have castellated nuts on them. Nylocks have been installed as it looks like the stud on the rod end is too short for the castellated nuts with a cotter key. Is this possible? It seems like the spindle and the rod end have the same taper. (I pulled them apart and all looked correct)

It looks close to the castle nut working. I would try one and see.

Some aftermarket tie rod ends use a locknut instead of a castle nut.

It appears that I could get a castellated nut on the tie rod end. The thing is that from every indication under the truck, I have pre 1971 tie rod ends being used with the 1971-72 spindles. Which from all I have read isn't supposed to be possible.
