1956 side view mirror mod
Has anyone ever tried to modify or reshape a side view mirror arm on their Taskforce pick up?
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...pshxjincqo.jpg Since I have changed my 1956 pickup to Rh drive now the LH side view mirror is totally wrong. I though it would be easier (and maybe cheaper) to modify the mirror arm than move the entire mirror (i.e drill new holes and then have to repair and repaint) Not sure if the arm is solid or hollow (like tubing) It might reshape with some heat but just thought I would ask if anyone has tried. |

with the side mounted spare and a wide spare tire, all i saw in my drivers side mirror was tire i cut a base out of 3/8'' stainless and used 3/8'' stainless rod to move the mirror out 2'' it works great, i can see behind me now :D http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...pshllzjigw.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...pskbiqrruu.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...pszfqstlag.jpg |

Nice job. :)
Did you drill a hole in the plate and weld the rod in or just weld the rod the the face of the plate? |
Re: 1956 side view mirror mod
the rod is welded to the plate
i like it so much i'm thinking about doing the pass side too :D the old mirror mount in the pic is a repop, installed 22 yrs ago it came rough and pitted, would like to find ss mirror bolts too |

I did this also see my 56 truck build thread, the photos were before the chrome plating and before I installed round mirrors.
I did not have to change the passengers side (now drivers side) as it is fine as is. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psaa5b628c.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psf5e7b804.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps5b8c1fb3.jpg |
Re: 1956 side view mirror mod
Check out some motorcycle sites for mirrors, vibration dampened to top it off.

This might be outside of my skill set and to pay someone in Australia to make that would not be cheap. |
