1950 suburban carryall

here are some pic of my 1950 carryall (suburban) when i bought in may of 2010. it hardly had any rust and when i put the gas tank in. it ran and drove. the worst part of the whole suburban was someone in the 80s decided to put in a pop up sun roof. so i am planning on getting it filled back in with a patch panel from a truck roof.

i had the the interior and frame sandblasted. the outside body will come in a couple years when i can save enough money to to the body work and paint. someone cut a sunroof into the top before i had it. my plan is to get it welded up

i didnt like the ribs on the firewall. so i cut them out but left a 1" lip around each side. so i could cut out an 18 gauge steel template and weld it in

some people will think i crazy. but charley at charleys drop shop removed the back half of the frame and welded in a 2004 lincocn mark viii independent rear suspension (irs). the nice part is comes with disk brakes and it was only $250. i could have had the stock frame notched but i would have had to raise the floor about 9 inches and i didnt think that would look very good.

here it is roughly a couple inches above ride height. then we removed the body from the frame. it needs a little finish welding. then is it goes to the sandblaster and powdercoater next week. i also changed the color to a patina look. most may think i am nuts but it was all done with $100 in rattle can paint. it has 4 colors. clarit wine/dark gray/aqua blue/light blue.i then took 180 grit and brought out the layers. now i just have to finish the roof

i like the choice for the rear suspension but having owned ones with M2 the front they fell short of my ride expectations, gotta be beter choices out there. great burb otherwise!

like the paint. I did the same on my 50 ford. people love it and one person has hired me to do their truck. I steped my paper up from 1000 to 2000 then finished it off with 3000, my primer actually shines
