If you are a real man you will restore it. And don't you screw it up with an S10 frame!

That bed rail is straight, and the door handle isn't drooping down. Nice start for a project. It has potential, matter of fact all it has is potential...

jack up the door handle and the bed rail and drop an s10 under it...

the most limiting factor for most of us is funding..

if you can afford a trackhoe that size, I think you'll cross the finish line with that truck ;)

good luck!

still has the gmc emblem, sweet.
maybe wanna make sure you have a title or can get it licensed before spending too much time. then, decide what you wanna do with it from there. maybe a new cab would be a good idea, just saying. do you know what it actually is, year etc?

Re: I must be crazy

GMC has a few differences compared to the chevy but this may be the cheaper route in the long run. comes with doors and I hear they are assembled at premier street rods shop in jigs and doors etc are placed and fit correctly. if I was doing my 57 again I may consider the new cab. I would be driving by now and the cost of lost shop time doing the old cab compared to time that could be spent doing something else that pays......do the math. not to mention the cost of the parts, tools, shop supplies etc. I know, there's nothing like the original steel but in this case you may be more patch than original.
great place to start if you're learning to weld though.or sandblast, or fit panels, or......
I know, it's not even apart yet so you have no idea what you have other than rust and a big open air top.
post up some pics when you get to working on it. you have our curiosity now.

We Google'd the cowl tag and it came back a 1949. It's been laying on it's top for who know's how many years out in the timber. Funny thing is, all the "normal" rust spots are in great shape. Top of the fenders and hood are gone, along with the roof though. Already bought a 50 cab doors and fenders. It came on an 88 s10 frame already. A project someone lot interest in. It's got a 283 and powerglide trans as well. I don't know yet want direction we'll take. My son is a Highway Patrolman, so he's helping me work on getting a title first.

after a lot of massaging I too chose to screw it up on an S10 frame and its almost done, only has taken about 3 months so far.

and in fact in just 5 years I have screwed up 5 other trucks with S10 frames (check my profile for pictures of those), so if you need pointers or help instead of judgement there are a lot of guys to ask.

I've been reading your build thread Joedoh. Inspiring to say the least.

thanks, I think you just have to say "found a problem and need an answer" and just keep moving.
