6 lug vs. 5 lug
A question for you guys. I just purchased a 68 2 wheel drive sub. This truck has 6 lug wheels. I've noticed that alot of the same trucks here have 5 lug wheels. It's not a problem. Just wondering why some have 5 and some have 6?

71,72 are 5 lug 67-70 are 6 lug
Personally I would prefer to have 6 lug. |
Re: 6 lug vs. 5 lug
Pretty sure it's to get a better selection of custom wheels.

Re: 6 lug vs. 5 lug
6 x5.5" Is a very common lug pattern. Everything 1999 and up is 6 x 5.5. Granted that 73-98 is 5x5 but who wants to run old style wheels. There are plenty of aftermarket wheels in that size but there are just as many if not more modern 6 lug wheels. There are big brake kits in 5x5 as well as 6 x5.5.
I agree though that there seems to be strong preferences for both sides. |

Re: 6 lug vs. 5 lug
I switched to 5 lug while changing to disc brakes.
Discs are the best change to make to end the quick panic feeling when driving in traffic. I found a parted out 72 a arms and put it under while adding a drop kit. I vote discs as most important and then what ever lug pattern you end up with you can likely find wheels to work. |

Re: 6 lug vs. 5 lug
Back spacing is always an issue if you don't run the proper wheel.
