Possible 69 Suburban Purchase

I wanted to post this up and see what you guys thought? I have been talking with the owner on this 69 for the past few days, and he has given me a ton of history on the truck. The rust repair doesn't look too bad, and he has already done a bunch of work to it. The engine bay is all painted and detailed, and new brake lines all around. Do you guys think it is a solid start for $3500? My plans would be to do the rockers, floors, lower quarters and run it this year as is. Eventually it would get an LS swap like my 87 K10 did.

More pictures of the cargo area, floorboards, and interior would help. Be sure and check the body supports underneath and the core support and inner fender panel under the battery. Price doesn't seem too bad for your area. I'm sure they are pretty hard to find out east.

Price is steep but your area may be the reason. I'd say it's a $2000 burb at most if it's rusty & not a driver. Unlessit's got a brand new crate engine/trans to make up the price, but I doubt it.

It has a passenger car 454 in it and a TH400 trans, not new, but supposedly ok. He says he drives it and it is currently registered. I was supposed to drive up and see it tonight, but work got in the way of that. I am hoping to pull the engine and trans anyhow and recoup something for them if they are worth anything> I have a 4l80 laying around and would be picking up a 6.0LS to drop into it. Thanks again!

Will do, I have the sheet metal on order, I'll start a build thread once I start next weekend. Everything was surprisingly solid, aside from the areas he told me about and one spot around the windshield that needs a little help. It has less rot than the newer trucks in this area and the buy in was a lot less and it will be way cooler once it is done! I can drive it as I am working on it for a while too, just need to add seat belts in the back so I can take the little guy along for the ride!!

Whelp, first run out on the main roads didnt go to well. She overheated on me pretty good. Thought maybe it was a sticky thermostat, pulled it out. Ran it again and she boiled over in my driveway. WP is circulating fluid through the radiator, i am thinking the fan may not be up to task..... time to fab up a shroud and add a second elec fan i guess?

Is it running the original cooling system that was for the small block? If so, perhaps you are right on it not being up for the big block.

Congrats on the purchase! I was eyeing that on CL for a couple weeks, wondering what parts I could likely, successfully, get off of it. ;)

It is a cool ride and definitely one to envy once complete.

I think I may have figured it out, as RPM's increase the lower radiator hose is collapsing. This would explain why it was running fine going up and down the side streets, but was overheating after a quick highway run. The RPM's didn't get high enough putzing around town, but sustained high rpm on the highway sealed off the lower hose.

I would have bought it too. Do the sirens or PA speakers up on the roof work?

Yes, keep us posted.
