warn hub bolts

Brand new warn hubs on my dana 44. why do the hub bolts break? Just fixed one side with 3 broke, one is broke on the other side. Might have broke while removing. Had anti-seize on them. So why do they break? when i pull the other side i gonna make sure they are not bottoming out thread wise. I only locked them in twice. Maybe just cheap warn ? around $100.

warn hubs for years now have gone cheep / pot metal crap if you ask me .

go get some old school spicers and clean them up . or new yukon hubs .

yukon hubs are the best of the dana 44 and dana 60 spicer hubs designs all in 1 hub .

and if the yukon or spicer ever failed they will fail locked unlike warn goes open .

GSP7--org 61 closed knuckle (added disc and open knuckle spindles/hubs) warn 20990 lock-outs. 1/2t of course. seams I am not the only one with this problem doing some searching on the net.

I have those same hubs. 30 years old. Never had those little skinny Allen heads break

30 year old units are better quality than new crap they sell us now.

I like the yukon's but not the price. They look like my org spicer ones on my old hubs.

I did notice when I put my new ones on that the bolts felt "flimsy". As if they hadnt been hardened. Looked a lot like chintzy IKEA furniture hardware. Had forgotten that I wanted to replace them till now.

I agree on the bolts. I have a new set of warns in the box for at least 9 yrs and noticed made in China sticker.
Reluctant to use them, haven't had to yet, they definitely look like a lower quality than what I was used to, and I always used warn.
Maybe ARP will come out with a bolt kit, the supplied ones look and feel like sheer bolts to me. I know you don't mash them down, but they seem like they'd break at 10lbs of torque. C,Mon Warn, start up your American plant again:flagw:

I refurbished my 30 year old warns last year and repainted the recessed lettering and dial slots etc

I did replace the bolts with some (8-18?) stainless from the bolt depot.

Did those (and Im not trying to come off like a know it all) "feel" any better? I know sometimes stainless can be pretty soft.... unless you have to drill it out in an emergency.

I remember vividly installing those screws and thinking I was gonna snap one just installing them. Ended up running a bottom tap into the holes and using never seize on them as well. Still didn't get a good feeling about them.

Re: warn hub bolts

Chris--I know what you mean about the feel when installing. I thank one or more of mine broke when removing. the stainless felt better for sure. They didn't have any long enough in 316 stainless. They were only .21 a piece. I guess we will see if they are any better than stock ones. They are breaking right as they inner the lockout.
