How the hell did I miss these lol. Hawgs have been gone for a long time. Nice to see something similar back on the market.
Just passing this along.

Re: How did I miss these???

I really wanted 16.5 Ground Hawgs for my slots I had, but they dropped off the radar. I never liked them because they are directional. I need a tire as good forward as backwards, and not practical for rotating. But I didn't plan on much 4 wheeling in that truck or putting many miles on it. I see them as novelty tires and that's all I wanted. Good for mud bogging since you run forward till you're stuck and get pulled out. "Deep siping on the main lugs"? What else is there?

Arent those interco's the ones that cost a fortune

I was looking around for 16.5s a year or two ago. I think Interco had some like $400 apiece IIRC

Cheaper to buy new rims, so I did

.

They offer 17" and 18" too. I wouldn't do 20 or 22 personally, but at least there are options popping up now. It doesn't thrill me that my tire size was dropped so I'll be looking into some different wheels and tires later. I've seen a set of 8 lug steelies with caps in 18" on a 72 and they look rather nice.

$357 for the 35x12.50R18. I agree a little pricey, but if you want that look you don't really have that option for a bigger tire.

Re: How did I miss these???

Tires got more pricey because of all the new queer rim diameters. So much more tooling/set-up time or more factory space and variation in stock to produce/inventory. It costs more to make and stock to sell 180 variations than 40. Just pulled these numbers from my head. But probably a worse ratio. Figure all the profiles in the normal sizes offered forever vs about twice as many. Figure 13" and 14" didn't offer a lot of sizes. It seems once the hole in the middle got bigger all tire prices about doubled or more.

I put a set of 315/75/16 Mickey Thompson Baja atzs on my 98 8 years ago or so at 1300ish for the set of 4. These are definitely more expensive but only by a few hundred for the set. Like you said Ryan if you want the look, it is what it is. Id love to see some caps on 17’s. I really think these tires will end up on my 72, but I want to run factory caps.

Here are Mobsteel 8 lug 20x11 with 38x14.5 tires.

I may not go 20s, but IMO, they look pretty nice on there.

I like them but agree on rim size .

I think a 17 or 18 would be a much better look .

Dang it Ryan you are a detriment to my wallet:lol: those wheels and caps are awesome! 17s with 35x12.5 cobalts are in my future.

Re: How did I miss these???

I've been trying to brace myself because I doubt I stay 16.5s on my 72 once these are worn out. I don't want to go to pizza cutters, so it's either DRW or 18s with modified steelies. Maybe 16x10 wheel vintiques but we'll see how available the 33s are then. I didn't think I'd see the day when some 16" tires sizes were hard to get.

Re: How did I miss these???

I love the steely look, but just can't do it with those 20s. I wanted steely's if I ever do the SAS on my Tahoe, but they don't have 12" wide in 8 lug, but do in 6. If I didn't already have everything 8 lug I'd do it.....

Looks like a 1/2t with skid loader wheels to me. Nothing classic about tall wheels with hubcaps, except the hubcaps. This is the classic look. 17s are the new 16, thanks to the gay trend of gangster size rims, 17s are the new 16.5 to me. I'm not close minded. I have guys tell me 17s don't belong, just because it's a size that never existed in truck tradition. I say you tell me those 17s you're looking at aren't 16.5s until you read the sidewall up close. You're talking an additional 1/4" radius. I think I have a good eye for such things and I'll tell you without trying, I know I could not tell you one from the other...except I know what tires are available in 16.5 and can go by that.

In the day, it was all about the tire and the wheel was a required necessity to gain the tire size desired. That's what wide steelies are all about. And they look damn good while serving that purpose. These days people are all about the big wheelz, then come the tire it seems. The taller the wheel the less tire

Re: How did I miss these???

Tim, 17" tire prices seem to be a lot more expensive and that is why I was leaning towards the 18s. I don't feel they'd look that far off from a 16.5 either. I hope I don't have to worry about making this decision for a while either.

I really dont care for the look of those 20" diameter rims either. Not the classic look at all
