Aftermarket small cap HEI.

4 Attachment(s)
I have a 283 from a 64 c10. (Currently in 51 GMC)
I acquired an old edelbrock intake. A 1406 carb a pair of valve covers.

Those came with 2 new ish. Aftermarket small cap distributors. Look identical.
The part number is Jm6701r. Google tells me nothing. The cap uses different wires than my points dis.

Is it worth installing? I do NOT want a mad box. I do Not think there is firewall room for an original large cap hei.
What coil?
My current coil is new 12v no ballast resistor required. The ug wires are different..

What thoughts or prayers would you suggest?

This is what the part number brought up when I typed it into Google.

Typical 70 dollar made in China distributor.

Would either be better than stock points?

I don't know about the quality of that particular distributor, but HEI is a huge upgrade over points systems in general. I found several different vendors with that part number on Amazon, but all told there are only four reviews; three are 5-star and one is 1-star.

I would say try it, what do you have to lose, but since it requires different wires...

Re: Aftermarket small cap HEI.

I dropped it in ran the plug wires went to put coil wire on.... different ends. I found an msd wire with adapter on amazon... $20 but wont be here until Apr 20... so tonight will be clear coating intake. tomorrow assembling intake with point dist and new points. I have a 1405 and 2406 600 cfm edyelbrock the 140t ids cleaner looking which should I use?
I hove no reason to believe this engine is not "stock 1964""

This guy can probably sell you a different cap that will work with what you have wire wise - https://swapmeetparts.com/contact/
Also Blueprint Engines sells them (caps for small HEI).

GASoline71 is right cheap Chinese made dist. Found out a couple years ago about those, junk. Go get a HEI from the junk yard it will be way better than that one you have.

Re: Aftermarket small cap HEI.

I had old dist out. Set points to .017.
Adjusted timing.
Played with throttle to give full range of motion.
This thing runs AMAZING..
Likely not using aftermarket dist.
Trading accuired 600cfr. Edelbrock for 500.
I will install intake carb likely next weekend. At that time I wiss lset up another set of points to carry as a spare.. while looking for good used gm hei.... or not lol

Thanks for helping a youn old guy figure things out.
