What brand mufflers are you running?

I have a 68’ gmc shortbox with 350. Mild cam. My truck has black widow mufflers on it. (They were on it when I bought it) and I think they sound good but are obnoxiously loud. What do you recommend that sounds healthy but not setting off car alarms driving by?

Magnaflows dumping in front of the rear axle. I'm happy with them, a decent rumble that's not too loud, but you can tell it's not stock exhaust.

Full exhaust system I hope? I really like the sound of turbo mufflers, especially the Walker DynoMax. I have the hemi turbo (20" case) on my Jimmy and bought another set for the 427 I'm swapping into my short step. I would rather BE fast and not just SOUND fast. LOL :mm:

Delta 50s, bbc, mid length headers duel out the back. Louder than I expected ,probably equal to the super 44s I had on a small block. I think the Delta 50s would be perfect on a small block.

Re: What brand mufflers are you running?

If you like the Flowmaster sound, which I happen to love, I'd recommend 50 series if you think 40's are too loud. I've got 50's on my Corvette and love them. They're sorta 40 series lite, lol. Not quite as loud and no obnoxious drone. That's a full exhaust system coming off of full length headers. On the truck I've got thrush turbos coming out in front the rear wheels, but it's a 6 with a header on it, so that's probably not what you're running, but I do like that sound too, for a 6. I don't think flowmasters would sound good on a 6.

Black Widow also has a 300 series that is a little larger and would offer the same sound only a little quieter. They are spendy but sound great. I have some Hooker Aerochambers on my 67. They are not stainless but they are quiet at idle but quickly roar to life with no drone.

Re: What brand mufflers are you running?

JEG's has a $30 muffler that sounds really good. Buddy of mine uses them on his vehicles and when I get around to changing the exhaust on my trucks, I'll probably do the same. And, if they don't last very long, I'm not sure why they wouldn't, for another $30 they would be easy to replace.

Re: What brand mufflers are you running?

I have a set of "Jeg's" stainless mufflers for my Corvette. They are Jones Full Boar and sound good on my test stand, but I can't speak to what they will be like on a truck, or for that matter with full pipes in my 'vette. But the ones I bought are stainless. And once I figured the Jones part #, cheaper by a lot on Amazon.

I have summit knock offs and they are quite loud,I was thinking of going to a quieter set or even going with a single 3 inch to knock some of the noise down. The truck sounds good though just loud at rpms.

Re: What brand mufflers are you running?

I have run the Dynomax SuperTurbos on a lot of vehicles. I found it funny when I would get compliments on the rumble without being loud. When asked what they were, I would tell them Dynomax SuperTurbos. And than get the 'Ohhh'. And almost an eye roll. You like the sound, you complimented it, yet because it's not Flowmaster or whatever brand than they are crap?? LOL!!!!

I ordered a couple stainless mufflers from Jegs. Only to find out when they arrived they were in fact Jones Full Boar mufflers with a Jegs label over the Jones label, on only one end of the box. And they charged about $20 more than the Jones....... With that said, I'm liking the sound on my CJ with a TBI 350 and true duals (with cats).

Re: What brand mufflers are you running?

Yes. There really are muffler snobs out there.

Like Mike C I like hemi turbos. I had them behind a 350 Olds for near 10 years and loved them. 12" turn downs in front of rear axle. It idled quiet yet barked when called on and absolutely no drone. I'm way past loud pipes now days. They are annoying to me.

You heard the ole '72 idle. Now hear it run out. No hot rod, but not too loud

Those 70s sound good. Hearing them at cruising speed would be good to hear... or WOT off the line!

We certainly need more videos for comparison. Me telling you mine goes more "RRrrrrrr" than "Waaaa" but now I'm looking for "Hmmmm" just don't get it

I run full length headers. I'd like to put new pipes on this summer. I have a couple patches on my '04 system now, and running it all last summer got me thinking I want it quiet. It's a strong motor with a peppy cam. Don't ask, I built this motor in '91. I've never had a cam'd/bumped compression motor with quiet mufflers. I want something quiet with good flow. I want "hmp hmp hmpitty hmp", not even "hump hump humpity hump" which is quieter than "bump bump bumpity bump". I was thinking Cadillac 500 or big truck mufflers. What could get me there? I'm willing to give up (some) flow. But also thinking I'll go from 2.25 to 2.5 which would help get better flow from more restrictive muffs. I don't think the Cadillac mufflers exactly choked the 500 out and larger trucks need another form of hi-performance, just not speed performance. Think of what a stock medium duty big block truck sounds like. That's what I want. I want those who know the sound of a healthy motor to notice, not little old ladies

Get the DynoMax Super Turbos Tim. (I guess Mopar made them quit using the Hemi moniker). Part # 17748. They will easily support the power level of your motor, they sound great at idle, the have a sweet wide open sound but they are not loud. They are $58 with free shipping on Amazon. Amazing # of positive reviews, 4.3 out of 5 on 69 reviews in the era where everyone is unhappy.

https://www.amazon.com/Dynomax-17748.../dp/B00029J3IY

They have a “Hear it” button on their page. I haven’t since I know what they sound like, and with noise cancelling mics on smart phones you can’t really tell how loud somebody else’s truck is.

http://www.dynomax.com/super-turbo-c...ffset-641.html

May not be anybody under 30 in this thread running them, but as you can see from quite a few of the posts above a lot of us who’ve worn out a dozen sets of tires on our trucks are fans.
