1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

I am working on a 1949 Chevy Truck and have a 1972 Nova Subframe & Rear end. I was wondering if any one has any pictures of how they installed theirs or any trucks that are rolling to see what stance they have. Thanks

Look at the build I just posted a link to. At post 12 he starts putting a sub frame on.

Look towards the end of the build to see it at ride height.

the front subframe will fit nice but the rearend might be a little narrow. here is some great reading on front subframe installation:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=148978

This is how a friend of mine did his 55 chevy a AD can be done the same way. I have a 53 done the first way and wish I had done it this way it looks safer to me. Also I have a Nova rear on my 53 and it fits alright I have 8 in ch wheels with 4 in back spacing and 235/60-15 on it.

Thanks for all the help. This is my winter project on my sons truck so I have a little time to figure it out. Running the original subframe all the way under the truck frame is what I was thinking just didnt know how it would look. Looks good. Thanks.

That's impressive work on those subframe grafts. It looks like the joint comes out stronger than the original frame when you do it that way.

heres mine. 77-prior el camino sub. 2" drop spindles and QA1's. pretty dirty.

its not a nova front, but you get the idea here as well. keep in mind where your welding the clip to the frame, you can get the pickup a bit lower welding the subframe higher.

The Nova subframe seems to be a little more narrow than the Camaro.

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

it is around 2 inches. I have a 74 nova on my 53. I bought 15x6 rims with 4 inch back spacing and I have 205/75-15 tires on it and seem to fit ok.

86 won't work. they don't have a sub frame. and the suspension parts are flimsy.

Here's a 54 I built a couple years ago....

This method puts it at about stock ride height.
Rolling chassis, no engine/trans/glass/interior....

This is a 1970 Nova Clip on a 1954 truck. Its a nice clip and rides great. It was a hack job that I had to cut out and re-install. Here is the thread if you want to see it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=445185

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

Hey guys, Newbie here! Im picking up a 49 long box tomorrow and already thinking of how to make it ride and stop better. A friend of my has a running/driving 78 firebird he is trying to sell. I was wondering If i could use the sub frame from this car and do something like Indian did earlier in this post?! Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!

The firebird clip is the same as the camaro clip Scott52 used

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

I figured as much, but didn't know for sure seeing as its a tad wider than the older Camaro and Nova subs. Any Advice or problems I should look out for? also, think I can use the rear end out of the same car or is it too wide? Thanks in advance

Re: 1949 Chevy Truck Subframe Install - Any Pictures

You can use the rearend too, just watch your backspacing on your wheels. I would use EVERYTHING I could from that bird, you'll save some money. I moved my frontend out to make my wheelbase longer so the front wheel set in opening centered.

Looks damn clean! Mine will not be, as its been sitting in a yard for the past 10years or so.. I will be making it into a short box as well. Think I can cut the amount needed out of the front of the bed and just reattach the front bed panel to the sides?
