Broken head Pipe Stud

O.K.Kiddies here we go again. I'm still working on the 5.7 motor in my 1992 Surbooban, and the donut on the passenger's side was blown out. I removed two of the three studs CAREFULLY but the third one went *Ping* and snapped off. I'm not going to waste my time laying on the ground with metal chips falling in my face if I don't have to. Has anyone tried the AP8001 repair gadget? I'm gonna try but I'd rather hear from someone else that has been successful before I order some.
How about the Nickson 17351 Clamp-A-Stud 1 1/4-2 3/4 has anyone tried these?

I've had friends use the Nickson style clamp and it worked for them. I busted a stud on the passenger side manifold when I had to replace the y-pipe in the 93 Sierra I had. I just went ahead and pulled the manifold so it could be heated up with a torch so the busted stud could be removed.

Re: Broken head Pipe Stud

thing i have found out on old trucks is pre soak any old bolts with pb blaster for a day or so before starting any bolt removal process.

learned my lesson with front shocks,
also a high impact wrench gets the job done as well,

electric units every bit as good as the air type if u dont have access to air supply.

Re: Broken head Pipe Stud

I didn't have an impact wrench where I was working at the time. I did buy a gizmo that fits over the manifold and a stud drops down into the head pipe, which I have yet to install, but I did get a donut gasket in the pipe and two studs tightened, and got it to my house with less noise. The P.O. has sawed the factory muffler off and put in a straight pipe, it's not real noisy it has that huge catalytic cnoverter on it.
