Roof swap on my panel begins
Final (completed rig) Photo AT THE BOTTOM Page 3, of the thread from Sunday March 17...don't know how to edit the title.
Over a month early from the original appointment, the body shop prepped the donor roof on Dec 2nd. I know you guys like photos, so I will post progress shots. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps91ef83ae.jpg Maybe you saw the donor rig: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps035c8386.jpg |
Re: Roof swap on my panel begins
Looking good, I take it no trees were sacrificed for this roof change? Your posts keep reminding me how much fun I had with my old green 57 panel with the killer 327 in it.

And you can see the panel is a small displacement.
Here is a big block, sitting nearby. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps328e706a.jpg |

Re: Roof swap on my panel begins
Yesterday, I ordered Steele Rubber for all the rubber, like rear door windows, front doors and windows, windshield. I did the rear doors recently, so I am good , there.
Today, I call LMC and order the hood and L/H fender and a bunch of body gaskets and packing. |

Re: Roof swap on my panel begins
Adding a few progress photos. This panel was built in Los Angeles and first used as a Helms Bakery home delivery truck. My Grandma lived in Tustin, CA, and had milk home delivered twice a week and the Helms truck stopped weekly with cakes, pies, cookies, donuts and breads. They blew a distinctive whistle when they wheeled in and I could hear it two houses away, where we lived.
Four paint jobs were revealed during sanding 1. original darker mustard 2. Helms Bakery shade of yellow 3-4. were two different reds. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...g?t=1388093527 My body shop was amazed how rust-free the truck is. They were about as surprised at how much Bondo was used. This welded patch was then covered with putty. I bought inner and outer door patches for both front doors. Back doors showed little or no deterioration. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...pse005a5b8.jpg Donor roof was installed without disturbing my original w/s frame, for which I was very happy. Steele Rubber products cost about three-times as much as I could have paid from LMC, but I felt it would be worth it. All doors and windows get new Steele gaskets, felts and channels. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psbe444657.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps8c5483b8.jpg Body shop was pleased with parts shipped from LMC. The hood and fender will come back off after fitting. You can see the door patch in this shot. Passenger door got the same inner/outer patch treatment. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps4593379c.jpg |

Good grief, I may have had donuts from that panel IF its route was on my street when I was a kid.
In '57 Helms Bakery bought a bunch of Panels and GM stipulated they get rid of all there Twins. I had donuts off those also. Here's a Twin. |
