Newbie seeks advice

1 Attachment(s)
Hello All, long time lurker here. Finally getting around to my 66 Short bed Fleetside. Original drive train 283 , 4 speed on the floor. Planning on replacing the worn out 283 with a 350 crate motor. Is this a simple plug and play or? I know there are a couple of SBC crate motors available, just looking for a dependable driver.

Thanks for you time and suggestions.

Mike

Plug and play. I would upgrade to an HEI distributor but otherwise a 350 will bolt in just like the 283.

Nice truck, sir! Not a deal killer either way but If you intend to reuse your flywheel you need to make sure your crate motor has a 2 piece rear main seal otherwise you will need a new one as well.

Not necessary to upgrade or change out radiator, fan or shroud?

Thanks

Not if it is all in good working order.

Good call on the flywheel.

You''ll be able to dress out that 350 to look just like a 283 with a little work, too!
