Temp Gauge Question
 

Thought I'd check in with you guys for some advice about an issue i'm having.

The temp gauge is not working in my truck and i've gone through all the troubleshooting steps that ppl have suggested in past threads. The sending unit is working fine (tested with a meter) and I've grounded the green sending wire.

The odd thing is when I ground the sending wire the gauge moves to the cold side (Left). When It's un-grounded the needle pops up a little above C and settles back down. Is it possible to have to polarity reversed with these gauges?

A little history, the sending unit is brand new, brand new AAW wiring kit, and a brand new cluster.

i'm going to pull the cluster today to make sure I didn't get any of the wiring incorrect on the main plug but I triple checked everything when it was re-wired. It's the only thing not working correctly. Everything else is fine.

Sounds just like the way mine behaved when I first got my truck. In my case, someone had installed a sender for a temp light and not a gauge. Swapped out the sender and all's well.

That would make sense but when I ground the sending wire is when it does it. It's supposed to move the needle over to the Full mark but it doesn't. It moves the needle further to the C mark.

Does the needle ever go to H?

If not, you have your answer. Is either the resistor on the back of the gauge or the gauge itself.

It doesn't, I have a few spare resistors so i'll swap one out. Thank you for the response. I hope it's that.... it'll suck for a new gauge to be bad... but it happens.
