Column signal switch adapter
 

anyone know where to get the signal switch crescent TRUCK side plug at (female end). i went with an ez wiring kit and it has pre-crimped terminals for the flat connectors (i believe they are 69 and new gm column plugs?)...which is fine, but my rebuild column is using the crescent style connecter. i ordered an adapter but its the wrong one.

im guessing my options are:

1. order flat style connectors, cut original crescent style plug off and re pin with the flat style connector.

2. find an adapter that will plug the original crescent style connector to the gm flat connector (having no luck with this one)

3. depin the original TRUCK side crescent plug, and find the correct connectors, cut off the pre crimped terminals that is on the wiring harness, and crimp on the old style connectors, and use original TRUCK side plug (also no luck on finding the correct terminals).

below are some pics of what the harness looks like, the 2 different style flat connectors the kit came with, my original column plug, the TRUCK side original plug, and the wrong adapter i ordered.

I would give M&H a call. They have been good in the past about selling separate pieces for harnesses.
Amazing how many E-Z things aren't.

man im tellin ya, i love the fact that the wires are pre labeled....but man, its a pain to tie in to the c10 truck switches. it really is a basic kit. factor in im not a great wiring guy and you run into problems lol.

the kit assumes your column is using the flat connector, which is fine. but the problem is, it doesnt come with the opposite end to give you the option to cut your stock one and make the other side to the plug.

i ordered a flat connector set off amazon, but it requires you to cut the stock crescent plug. ill check with M&H to see what they carry. if i have to cut it i will, but i really wanted to keep the stock crescent plug. guess it really doesnt matter......

If the pins are the same I would just unpin it and change the plug. If they are different I would probably buy new pins and use the old plug. Or buy this:

Most aftermarket harness use the later flat style GM plug. You have an adapter to use a later flat turn signal switch with an early harness in your pic. You need (I think) an early switch to late harness adapter?

exactly my kit came with 2 flat connectors which I thought were male and female but I believe they are just 2 different female connectors.

that's jegs kit listed it as a stock column to AAW dash, so it confused me. do these half moon connectors come with the terminals to crimp on my dash wires?

In the grand scope of things there are really 3 different GM plugs. "Early" which is curved, "late" with is flat, and "later" which is flat and longer. The pigtail you show in you picture is for a late style turn signal plug to an early harness. These are used with aftermarket columns put into trucks with their original harnesses. A vast majority of aftermarket steering columns regardless of manufacturer come with a "late" style flat plug (and GM steering wheel splines). Not sure but this style pigtail may also possibly used with some of the newer RV tilt columns and original harnesses too? There is also a flat-flat pigtail to put a "later" style column in a "late" style harness. Usually this is a Cadillac tilt/tele with an aftermarket harness. Some aftermarket harness get around this by putting terminals on, but not the plastic plug and just provide both. But what you need is early column and late style wiring pigtail. This allows an original 67-72 column with curved connector to be used with most aftermarket harness "late" style flat connector.

its a 21 circuit kit. i got it off amazon and threw the original box out...not sure on the part number.

so that flat connector that you posted from JEGS has to be a later model gm one, so it should work with one of these 2 flat connectors that came with the wiring kit.

ill get this plugged up one way or another lol

It really makes no difference in which style you use because they all work the same. I haven't used the style that came with your kit tho, so not sure how you use 'em. Personally, I would just re-pin the stock crescent connectors and use those. I don't know why, but for some reason I don't like those flat ones :lol:

After looking and thinking a bit more, I have used that same style EZ Wiring kit. It works, but the wire insulation is huge. I was unable to get the connector on successfully. I ended up splicing in a connector off of an old harness. So in your case I would either try to unpin the wires from the crescent connector if they are the same and put the new ones back as suggested above. There is more room in this style than the flat ones so maybe. If you can't do that, I would just cut the end off your old harness and splice the wires with some high quality heat shrinkable butt connectors. You may want to stagger the cuts so the splices are not all in the same place. Just for me I will not use one of the EZ Wiring again, it will be an American Autowire. More money upfront but the wire sizes are better.
