All GM Show in MN & Get together June 8th

A few weeks back, Sakohntr posted for any interest in a MN get together. It was suggested to meet at the fairgrounds on June 8th, for the All GM Car and Truck show(and swap meet!). As this is only a week away now, I am reposting for prospective attendee's. I have e-mailed the sponsors rep for hours, and any costs, so I will include that info when I get it. We could pick a designated place inside, or out of the grounds to meet, and a time. Any suggestions?? Spectator fee..$5.00 show vehicle..$10.00, includes admission for driver, and one passenger gates open by 7:00 am......awards around 3:00pm......swap space $10.00 for 15x20......for sale corral $15.00

When does registration start/end and when does the show end? How much to enter and how many vehicles are normally there. It would be a 5 hour drive for me.

I'll see what I can find out for you. I haven't heard back from the rep yet. I may have worded the original post incorrectly. I asked for "prospective participants", meening attendee's, not neccessarily show participants. A lot of guy's originally responded to a get together there, but you're welcome to show your vehicle also.

sunday

Hey that would be sunday. I am gonna try and make it. Have to be there early to beat da burb at the swap meet. You know how he is. Takes all the good stuff home right away.....

da-burb 06-01-2003 11:21 PM

Sleep in Bruce, I never get there very early. Last year I got there around 10:30. All that was left in the swap space was a crummy set of 72 Blazer buckets for $20 and a set of Rally wheels with caps and rings for $50.

Here is one thing to think about. Trucks that are "works in progress" can be at the show also. It will cost you $10 to show your truck and that includes 1 guest. Or you can pay $5 a person and walk into the show. The nice thing is if you find something at the swap meet, your truck is right there and not 6 blocks away in the spectator parking lot. :) smart idea I'd say......

Now should I bring my burb or the motor home to the show?, that is the question........

toms68cst 06-01-2003 11:31 PM

I've got to make it one of these years. My truck is not running yet and I've got a conflict.

Blackhawkdc 06-01-2003 11:52 PM

I will most likely be there with my "project" stepside. I went last year. Hopefully it'll be a little bit cooler this time around. I think it hit 90 last year.

sbrban 06-02-2003 05:31 PM

Where's the show at? Maybe the mrs will "let" me test drive the new airride in my burb up that far...

Class of 69 06-02-2003 06:48 PM

The State Fair is near St. Paul. On Snelling Ave. about 1 1/2 mile north of I 94. The $10.00 show fee includes the driver, AND 1 passenger !!

mrein3 06-02-2003 10:54 PM

Great! I plan one vacation a year and you guys go and plan a get together in my backyard.

Hey da-burb, if you walk 6 blocks from the fair grounds make sure you say hello to my parents on the way by. I grew up about that far from the state fair.

72chevyLWB 06-02-2003 11:14 PM

How many vehicles normally show up for that show?????? If its a descently big one I will show up on Sunday. Its a 5 hour drive from my house. I will be at another show on Saturday in Leola, SD and I will leave from that show for Minneapolis and spend the night. Then show up really early for the show and try to meet some of you guys. Any idea how many trucks are there?

Blackhawkdc 06-03-2003 12:02 AM

well, there was a good chunk of trucks there last year, I'd say 30+ But the entire show took up all of the inside field of the State Fair race track. This year the show's gonna be outside on "Machinery Hill" due to construction and modification to the race track to make it a race track no more. :(

Chris H 06-03-2003 09:03 AM

I will be there.
Lets pick a place and a time to gather, maybe Da-Burb could tell us what he is driving (I vote motorhome) and we could meet at his rig at the predetermined time.

Where is spectator parking with the racetrack deconstruction?

Alex 06-03-2003 09:06 AM

Hope to catch you all there. I will be wearing my board t-shirt. I might drive my truck over as well. Not sure if I would put it in the show with rust showing in the rockers....

Yeah, I vote for the motorhome. We can all have a party in there, heh.

Class of 69 06-03-2003 06:59 PM

If 72chevy is going to be in the show, we could gather around him for a while till others arrive. I will be there between 8:30, and 9:00, depending on traffic! I would suggest parking in the lot on the north side of the grounds on Larpentuer Ave. It's the closest lot to machinery hill. I hope they have that one open, cause that's my plan, and I'm stickin' to it, .....unless someone has a better one!

72chevyLWB 06-03-2003 11:13 PM

I will know tomorrow if I'm going or not. I would be staying at my buddies brothers house in Minneapolis if I go. But my buddy has to clear leaving town with his g/f I guess. As long as I make it, it would be fine meeting by my truck. Any of you need some parts??? I have a mint inner 72 grille, a tilt van column, door weatherstrip kit, headlight bezels and some other little misc. stuff if anybody is interested I could bring. But yeah, I'll let you guys know tomorrow.

72chevyLWB 06-04-2003 01:24 PM

Okay, count me in. I'll be at the gates around 7:00 on Sunday. Looks like a rain out though.

da-burb 06-04-2003 05:38 PM

I am 99% sure that I am bringing the Burb. This is the only fund raiser we use for the truck club I belong to. So everybody come whether you are showing or not.

Class of 69 06-04-2003 07:18 PM

All too often, when there's a show at the fair, it has to rain at least a little! I'll look for the bright blue low rider with the 20's on it!

72chevyLWB 06-04-2003 08:41 PM

Who will all be going then? What time should we plan on meeting? Also, do they judge inside the box of trucks? Because its a long haul and I want to make sure I got tools just in case (a spare too). And do they start awards at 4:00? or is that when were totally done? I heard the deer are very thick between here and Minneapolis, just have to dodge them I guess.

Class of 69 06-04-2003 11:04 PM

The awards start at three. There aren't any deer in the western part of the state, their all east of St. Paul!! See two or three fresh kills every morning! I will be there around 8:30, unless it's pouring rain!

Seke69 06-05-2003 02:19 AM

Or the deer are in St Paul! I've seen a quite a few here at work (about three blocks South of the Fairgrounds)... I'll try to go. I live 1 1/2 blocks east of the fairgrounds on Larpenteur. It would be lame if I didn't go. Unfortunately my ol' lady has "plans" for us this weekend... I'll try to con her out of it.

hopefully I'll see you guys there!

(edit) be sure to look for the Minnesota State Fair grounds keeping 68 Chevy! it's kind of a sea-foam green color with a flatbed, I spied it the other day while the grounds crew were planting flowers along Snelling Ave... wooo hooo!

Alex 06-05-2003 07:42 AM

Truck or no truck, I'll be there sometimes late morning or so. The rain has been spotty around here so never know if we will get doused or not.

mrein3 06-05-2003 08:24 AM

Seke69,

I grew up down there. Two of my high school friends drove that truck when they worked with the grounds crew in the summer.

I never could figure that out. They spend all summer sprucing up the place and after the first day of the fair the grass looks like $#!+. I suppose if they didn't fix it up all summer it would look like crap year-round.
