What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
I am going to be getting my motor on the frame soon, what kits out there worked for you installing a 1955ish 235 in the AD frame?

Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
I did the last one with the stock front mount. You have to drill the holes for the mount in the bottom lip of the plate on the front of the engine in most cases or as we did swap the 216 front plate over to the 235 during the rebuild. Pain to do it after the fact though.
Here! look this over and you can probably fab your own and use a Ford Flathead biscuit style rubber mount. https://www.jimenezbroscustoms.net/s...de-Motor-Mount A motor mount setup like this and some scrap metal and tubing from under the welding bench and a couple of hours and you have a 120 buck set of side mounts. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Unive...-Kit,1199.html You can probably find the mounts locally especially if there is a vintage Ford store in the area. Just don't tell them you are using them on a Chevy. You can buy the rubber pieces from Rock Auto for under 5.00 for the 4 rubber pieces but you don't get the bolt or washers. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...tor+mount,5552 |
Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
I could make them, I am just trying to eleminate as much work as possible, the body will be enough! That's why I decided to go with the dropped axle instead of the IFS I was going to use. I am having a bunch of stuff powdercoated for instance instead of painting, I am just trying to eliminate work right now.
If I can buy some kit to bolt that baby in, if it's not too crazy high, I am going to buy it. Brian |

Hate to answer a question with a question but.....
Is it a truck engine (front mount) or car engine (side mounts)? |

Anyway, it's a side mount. Brian |
Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
I must have misunderstood your question. The front mount bolts to the crossmember and the side mount bolts to the frame?
In any case good question on a kit. Theres many choices from a SBC to LS to CBB motor mount kit but don't recall seeing any for a side mount Stovebolt engine. Not to say there isn't I just haven't looked. Might try looking at Summit and the other popular on-line resellers. In viewing your craftmanship in other threads I dare say you'd be able to make one up as good or better than a kit anyways. Good luck Dave |
Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
Do you still have you’re center crossmember and 216/235 bellhousing? Just because some 55 and later engines are side mount doesn’t mean you have to mount it that way. Drill the plate that is behind the timing cover and use an early bellhousing.

Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
You have a good point there! I have the early bellhousing I believe, does it bolt to the 235? I will have to look over everything to see what I have.

Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
Not for sure on the details. My 54 had a side- mount block in it at one time, using the side-mount mount bellhousing,
Hope this helps https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/engine_swap_216.htm |

Chassis Engineering used to have side mounts for 235's. Since Heidts bought them, I can't say if they still do.
I bought mounts from them when I was mocking up my Vortec 4200. I bolted them to the frame instead of mounting them to the engine. Anyhow, same principle. https://chassisengineeringinc.com/pr.../motor-mounts/ |
Re: What motor mounts did you use installing a 235?
Chassis engineering INC is slowly adding pieces back in the catalog after Heidts bought them.
I lucked out and bought the whole kit from them just before Heidts bought them and they quit selling pieces. They were selling what was left in the inventory for pocket change then. From what I understand Heidts bought all of the designs, patterns and jigs plus they hired the employees who were willing to move with the company. |
