#8 coil touching firewall

5.3 installed in my 66. Everything fitting great, went to install coils on right side and #8 coil is tight to firewall. Can't bolt up or get wire on. Anyone else run into this issue? Looking for a fix, don't want to adjust firewall. Drivers side fits perfect.

Are your motor mount adapter plates adjustable? Mine had 4 positions and I had to use the 3rd position away from the firewall to clear the passenger side coil. I still had to remove the last mounting stud. Mine is a Gen IV 5.3.

Just got to make the motor go forward. I had this and pretty much did what bigmoe did.

Or you can buy some custom coil brackets.

I don’t have a picture of mine right now I had the same problem remove the last mounting stud but still didn’t have quite enough room so I shortened the bracket between 7 and 8 I already had the motor mounted and the driveshaft installed

Sounds like a good idea with the bracket mod.My perches are in the rear holes. Have DD plates and am in the 4 th hole closest the firewall. Motor is as far forward as I can get it. Wasnt impressed when I seen coil touch. Trans and shifter all bolted up.

Yeah that’s how I felt with the driveshaft and everything all in and ready to go but I intentionally set my motor back as far and as low as possible Not thinking about the coil’s

I installed a 5.3L LM7 in my '70 K10. Definitely tight to the firewall. I didn't want to slide everything forward because it would've affected front and rear driveshafts (besides being a PITA). First I removed the rear mounting coil stud. Then I decided to change my coil brackets totally. Went with ICT Billet coil mounts. Not that it made a big difference, but I think it helped some.

Here’s some brackets that I ran across a while back if you’re looking for a bolt on solution. http://www.brphotrods.com/products/E...cal/index.html
