Space-saver garage seating

So the wife (thankfully!) enjoys hanging out in the shop while I'm working, but with two project cars space is at a premium and seating has been an issue. Fortunately, the other day I had a super idea - grabbed a 2003 ext-cab Silverado rear seat at the local U-Pull and knocked together a quick bracket for it:

Had to shorten the driver's side hinge a bit, but it's now bolted in place, folds up and locks just like in the truck. I have good clear space beneath and it's only 11" thick when folded, which is narrower than my cabinets and shelves.

Now I have seating for up to three when I need it, which is out of the way the rest of the time. And best part, significant other approved ;)

JJ, great idea! It is always nice to have some seating. And to have the spouse in the shop.

I’ve noticed a correlation between age and seating options. The older you get the more chairs desired....I have worked my way up to at least four plus lawn chairs. Younger friends have far fewer.

Nice Job, looks like a great place for the Supervisor to sit!

Cool idea.

What do the 90* bent rods do? Or were they already on the angle and not worth removing?

I may be wrong but I think the back of the seats have a piece that slides in and out of them when it moves from the up and down positions. It's an extra support to hold the back of the seat in place.

I like it. That's a very clever solution to a problem.

Correct, the seat back moves as the seat folds, about 3/4" actually. In the cab, there are two square u-bolt looking deals welded to the rear cab wall, with nylon isolators so they don't squeak.
The bent round stock was the easiest way to replicate that function.

Thanks for the compliments, folks!
