88-94 stereo wiring
 

The aftermarket stereo in my 93 K1500 stopped working the other day. I never liked it from the first day I got the truck, so I went to the junkyard and bought an 88-94 am/fm tuner, I already had the amp under the dash. I hooked up the tuner to make sure it worked, and it does. The only question I have is, besides the main plug on the tuner that plugs into the amp under the dash, what does the other small plug connect to? I circled it in this picture, it is a white wire with a black end. It comes out of the tuner wiring and it looks like it plugs into another wire with a black end on it. The only problem is that the PO twisted all the wiring together for the aftermarket stereo. so there is no wire with another obvious black plug on it, there's just a bunch of wires twisted together wire wire caps on the end of them.

I am also wondering where I can find an antenna cable extension, also circled in the picture. It is the smaller style plug, not the bigger plug used before 89.

I don’t know on the wire, but here’s a diagram. On the antenna cable extension, you can get them at most auto part stores. Autozone has them. Walmart too. Online you can get them from eBay or crutchfield.com.

Thanks for the pic. It doesn't seem to mention that little plug though, unless I am not seeing in the diagram.

why don't you just get an aftermarket head unit you can get all the main stuff from a salvage yard for like $5, then you go to Walmart to get the wiring harness for like $10 it looks better

Because I don't want an aftermarket head unit. This response, in no way, helps me whatsoever in answering any of the questions I asked in the first post.

my bad i just said that because it eliminates the need to extend your antenna and that other thing i believe is just a memory wire ...no need to be rude...

Sorry if I came across rude, I apologize. Thanks for the info about the memory wire, I did not think of that and that does make sense. The only problem now is figuring out what wire the memory wire connects to, and I still need to find an antenna extension. I have yet to find one. The antenna cable in my truck is very small, I've never seen one like it before. The end that goes into the amp almost looks like a pin.

they have some antennas at Walmart but im not sure if they have they one you need

That wire I was asking about is not the memory wire, because I could still save preset stations with it disconnected, and when I turn on the parking lights or headlights, the lights on the radio turn on. So if it's not memory, dimmer or constant power, what is it for?

Maybe the lead that went to the factory cassette player? The head unit had to connect to the tape deck somehow.....

As for the antenna, you can get adapter to go from standard antenna wire to GM "mini wire here....

Well it will be cobbled together, but you might have to use a standard antenna extension with reg to mini adapters on either end.

Update: got the tape player in and connected it to the amp. Works half of the time. The other half of the time, it will keep auto-reversing whatever tape I put in it. There is no sound from either the tuner or the tape player. I assume the speaker wires were spliced and cut to work with the aftermarket radio? There is one connection missing because there is an open spot on the amp for a connection that my truck doesn't have; I assume for speaker wires because there is no sound from tuner or tape player.
Any ideas?

Has Anyone figures out what that white wire is for? Its a white wire with a black connector which connects to a green wire??? I installed an aftermarket radio, but now i have no bass...? The radio is set with the bass to MAX.. I dont believe there is an amp in the truck ( looked under the drivers set). Id really like to know what that white wire goes to???
