so i was looking for a square body for a friends daughter. A customer of mine said he knows of a late 70s blazer if she is interested. i got the guys number and turns out that the late 70s blazer was actually a 1970 blazer. i about fell over and told her if she didn't get it i would. well she wasn't diggin it so i told the guy that as soon as i sold my 84 k10 i would come pick up this rust bucket.
that was in November and i finally got to get this thing home about two weeks ago. it is bone stock with a 307/350 combo. rust in the rockers and passenger floor/kick panel and a little inbetween the passenger seat and door on the floor, not sure if that falls into the passenger floor panel or not. any way the back half of the bed and the rear wheel well are rusted through also.
it runs okay, i think the timing is a bit off, and there is an oil leak from the timing chain cover, and an antifreeze leak somewhere. the leaks arent bad at all, but i am going to have to address them sooner or later.

the only thing i have done so far is clean up the front grille some and clean up the cluster and get the gauges to work.

okay so the wife and i were wanting to stay with the white original wheels, but i was looking for dog dish hubcaps. i found a few online, but they always wanted 40-50 each. well just a few blocks from me i took a different route to work and noticed one front hubcap with other wheels in a guys yard with a for sale sign.

i decided to stop by that afternoon and check them out. i asked what he wanted for them and he told me to make an offer. i told him i only had $20 bucks in my wallet, and he said he didn't want to break up the wheels and caps for that. he said he would give me the wheels tires and caps for $150. they were the same wheels as mine only the better 8" wide wheels instead of the 6". the caps aren't perfect, and need paint, but i figured they were perfect for a driver.

these are still the original wheels. i want to put a fresh white paint on the wheels before putting 33x10.50 on.

alright so i just sold the 15x6 rims for a $100 to the original owner of the blazer. so i got the 15x8 rims and hubcaps for $50. not too bad i guess. i also picked up the back seat from the guy. besides the 40 years of dirt, the seat is in perfect condition. if the front seats were this good i would prob rock the green for awhile. but i think sat i will be taking her in for an estimate on upholstry. I am thinking white and blue plaid like 2003_Silverados seats.....i love that interior...screams retro coolness

okay so the upholstery shops here are too busy to bother with this job. they are unwilling to find the blue highlander fabric to do the job. if i get the material they may do the job in 3-4 weeks. super bummed! i was wondering about a blue houndstooth?? if anyone has pics of that with white vinyl i would be interested.

okay so i got it to where it is comfortable to drive. if the wife likes it then we can spend money on it! the rust repair will have to wait for awhile to build up funds.

i got the 4" lift, new tires, new dash, floor vinyl, console and steering wheel.

i prob should have cleaned it up before snapping the pic.

the vinyl floor was from automotive interiors. there prices and shipping were better than LMC and i had no problem with the fit. although i would recommend saving vinyl flooring for the summer time....like wrestling fat chicks when it is cold!

the LMC steering wheel i am kind of disappointed in. the horn button is crap and keeps falling off. i called cutomer care and they said no one else in the whole world has had that problem before. so i guess im the only idiot that cannot figure out how to keep the damn horn button on.

cheap seat covers from walmart. not what i want, but will suffice until i can save up the $89 a yard for highlander, plus an upholstery shop to whip up some covers.

Ok so 4 years goes by quickly. I have been cruising the blazer off and on, It's not the daily so if it sits awhile no biggie. But we recently finished our house with a shop. I have always been envious of people with shops. Working in a driveway is absolutely no fun.

So now the blazer has its personal spot in my 40x50 shop. Time to start diss assembly to fix the rust.

Looks like typical Blazer rust. Should be an easy fix. Good luck with the build and keep the pictures coming.

Thank for the encouraging words! But not sure easy is the words I'm using. As soon as the finance department approves funding I will get the passenger side sheet metal. In the mean time I have got a spare bed from a pickup that has a solid floor and wheel wells. So I'm going to change direction and work on the bed.

I am ready to remove the bed. I got bedsides freed but the tail light wires are keeping the bedsides from moving completely out of the way. I guess I just figured I could quick disconnect from the back the light but that doesn't look like it will happen. Do I have to cut the wires?

efin sweet, glad you didn't cut the wires, looks like a good build so far
after you get past the first layer of rust, you'll know what you're in for,
more is almost always lurking, just underneath the first layer

So after six months of walking by it everyday I decided to pick it up again. I was really afraid to cut that donor bed down. But turns out removing the bed supports was by far more difficult. After I weld up the bed I will transfer over the supports from the old bed to the new one

Ok I'm in the process of switching bed support braces from the bad blazer bed to the better truck bed. When I removed the rear seat bolt support I noticed two "grease" marks. Looks like there used to be anti squeak pads or something. Any ideas if anyone makes that part or what I could use instead?

I finished switching the cross sills and reinforcement strips from the rusty bed to the new bed. Since we are expecting the shop to finally get insulation I was kind of forced to clean up my shop area to prevent letting stuff get lost while moving it around. Well. The bed is loosely fitted in place. It was like wrestling fat chicks but just like college. Perseverance and alcohol got the job done.

Ok so the long weekend allows for some much needed blazer time. My daughter has been asking me to drop her off at school next year. As slow as this is going, I doubt that is a reasonable goal. But it did make me want to get going on it again. The bed is in! Wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Next is floor board and rockers
