Thats the picture of the style of line these fittings were designed for. The stock sender just has a flare on the end.

Awesome build and beautiful truck! I’d love to do the same on my ls swapped 77.

Re: 77 c10 5.3ls turbo

Got the truck back from the tuner, pouring ran so I couldn't get on it. He tuned it while dry and said my turbo, tranny, torque converter, rear end all seemed setup real nice and well matched. I was happy to hear that.

Tuner gave me a list of things I need to do.

Turbo was blowing a smoke when he got on it. I had the oil input and exit ports close to horizontal, he clocked it close to vertical. He also told me that the fitting on the turbo oil exit line is a 90 and I should make it a straight fitting. If it still has blow by he can put a small restrictor in the input line to slow the flow of oil.

Waste gate was blowing at 3lbs which was fine for his tuning purposes but he told me to find a 10lb spring.

VSS wasn't signaling so it occasionally dies while stopped.

PCV system needs to be entirely reworked, I left the OEM. With boost it needs to be reworked.

He said with what I got going and my sticky Nittos I should be able to get into the 11's with a 10lb spring. Not sure about that but we'll see this summer.

Did he give you HP and torque numbers?

Did not dyno tune it, will do so after I get my to do list completed and put some miles on it. In the spring some time.

Nice lowered stocker look with a killer drivetrain. Well executed. Give a shout if you're going to bring it over to the west side ever. It'd be cool to see it in person.

Got the pcv setup completed not sure it will work but Ill give it a go. Welded a 10an bung on both the pass. and drivers valve cover. Connected bung with some braided lines to the oil catch can mounted where the battery tray was. I googled what other folks are doing for pcv systems and most are much more complicated. Most have a clean line and dirty line, check valves. I dont have either of my lines dedicated to clean or dirty. Seems like my setup would self equalize. I guess ill find out.

Picked up a set of factory c10 caps for cheap. Not sure I like them but they do help with the sleeper look.

Thanks for the inspiration can’t wait to hear how it drives after the 10 lb spring

Actually just ignore the clean side/ dirty side stuff. I'd highly recommend getting some sort of PCV setup... not for emissions but you really need engine vacuum to "suck" out the oil mist! This is the exact routing I ran at 18psi making 725rwhp through a 2005 5.3:

Hey JRPpntiac I am guessing you are past the shake down miles? How is this thing running and have you made any changes or upgrades at this point?

Re: 77 c10 5.3ls turbo

Haven't made any changes and haven't put as many miles on it as expected. But it is running very well, a pleasure to drive and it rips. Drove maybe 250 miles. Picked up some other cars this spring that diverted my attention. One of them being an 90 SS 454 .

At 13lbs and tuner says I will need a speed density to go even a 1/2lb more. Haven't had it on the dyno. Hope to do so in the next month or 2. Tuner is really busy and Im not in a hurry. Only thing I still need to trouble shoot is the VSS, it isnt working so it sometimes dies idle..

Awesome, happy to hear that. Don’t rush it that’s for sure. I bet it’s a blast to drive. At 13lbs that’s pushing some boost!

Good news - Had the truck dyno’d. Running about 12.5 lbs
528hp/501tq

Bad news - it was making some lifter noise before the Dyno. I think one lifter has let go. Will pull the heads and inspect. If lower end looks good probably will upgrade heads/arp head bolts and a couple other things. If it is a piston problem I’ll scrap the 5.3 and build a 6.0 and shoot for 700 hp.

Awesome! That’s impressive, and 12 lbs is plenty of boost. Do you have head studs now? There are a few rocker kits that would suite you well if you just have stock rockers now and no upgrades. Fingers crossed it’s just a rocker issue and you can save some cash!

Unfortunately I checked the rockers at the dyno shop, they are fine. No studs and a stock rockers. I’ve only changed the cam/valve springs and injectors. Will tear into and game plan once I figure out the problem.

Sooo....by my math that's about 660HP at the flywheel!
Pretty dang good, I'd say!

I suspect if I had used aftermarket motor mounts it would have cleared.

Did you grind the manifold or the clam shell?

Which adapters did you use for the motor mounts?

Thanks!!

Re: 77 c10 5.3ls turbo

Ground the clam shell. Don't remember the brand of the mounts but they were the standard flat plate 1/4 steel type. If I was to do it again I would use a solid motor mount. #1 I'm looking for more horsepower and probably should switch over. #2 they have a smaller profile.

I’ve been busy and it’s been cold so truck has been sitting for a few months. Got back into it today and turns out I had a broken spring land. Don’t know enough about broken piston lands to make any comment on why it broke. Not sure if I am going to go cheap and find a used piston, or spend some $. I had been looking at Craigslist all winter hoping a cheap 6.0 would pop up to start a higher HP build. It never did.

Re: 77 c10 5.3ls turbo

I would find a used piston and then increase your ring gap. Thats what cause the broken ringland.
