GM's 60* v6 interchangability.
 

My buddy has a 99 chevy venture, 3.4L. Had the top end rebuilt, bottem end craps out. :waah:
So we are trying to locate a used shortblock. If I search the local junkyards [car-part.com] for a 99 3.4L, they are all around $850.
If I search for an 03 3.4L, they are more available and around $550. My question is, whats the difference? According to wiki, nothing. But that's wikipedia, so I don't trust it. If they are different, can I use the later shortblock with the rebuilt older version top end?

You might search around try to find a website that sells re-man engines, see if they have a listing for your year, and maybe they will have a range of years that your specific engine year interchanges to....

Not trying to sound like I am bashing your effort.......but, a 99 model car isn't worth much more than scrap.

I labored on a 92 Buick Lasabre for waaay too long. Only thing that allowed me to sell it and not loose too much money, was the fact that I supplied all the labor...

Of course you may be trying to resurrect this car to help someone out....that was why I initially bought the Buick.....

If you use your existing manifolds, sensors, and fuel rail/injectors, you will be fine.

In this area, if a car runs and drives, it's worth $500+. If it runs and drives and is inspected, it's worth $1000+. With the price of scrap right now. You'd get 175-225 for it.


The value of the car is more than just how much you can sell it for. How much will it cost to replace it? Do you use it to get to your job everyday?

It all depends upon the situation. Paying someone to do this labor, would likely send it upside down on value, unless you could drive it long enough.

Everyone has a story. Getting this car going may bless someone tremendously!!!

Around here, a running/driving/fully inspected,clean bill of health by shop with everything working mini van is $3k all day long. You have to remember cars last WAY longer in AZ, we have literally no rust what so ever. So values stay up.
