68 2wd Burb Body to 72 4wd Chassis?

Howdy Folks, couple of questions for the experts;
  • will a 68 2wd Suburban body directly bolt onto a 72 4wd Suburban frame?
  • what are the required modifications to the floorboard, hump change?
  • anything seriously different in body panels?

I have a complete 72 GMC K1500 Suburban rustout and I'm looking at some earlier GMC donor bodies..

asking if there are any major body modifications required beyond the obvious nut-n-bolt work..

I scoured through some older threads but I'm not finding specific differences outlined respect of year model and 2wd to 4wd addressed..

I'm already researching the vin issues but looking at clear title donors only and not interested in selling anything complete..

even the briefest replies or links to specific threads all appreciated, thanks in advance!

I believe pwdcougar was doing a similar swap.

IIRC, a couple body mounts were in different positions

I'm nearly certain it's a direct swap. Just need a high hump for the 4x4, which your 68 may already have depending on the transmission it came with.

I did a 72 2wd Burb body to 72 4x4 truck frame, which did require a couple different body mounts and rear frame extension.

Good Luck!

anyone have any idea what a 67-72 suburban tub weighs with/without interior items or glass? 4 man lift?

Did the same swap 67 panel to 69 4wd sub. Direct swap except for hump.

Ive been kicking this around myself. I have the two wheel drive panel and the 4 wheel drive burb. Easy swap (relatively). I don't know the weight on these, but way back when we took the panel body off of its chassis I believe there were six of us. Its pretty dang heavy.

I never gave the hump a thought. My 67 2wd panel was a 6cy. 4 speed on the floor, and had a high hump. Was it a factory set up?

thank you! sounds like it's gonna cost me a little more beer than I originally thought..

my friends are cheep but put a few of them together and get ready to :b69:

I have moved on to a much better complete suburban to move forward with my current project.. mostly just edge and surface rust.. much more repairable than the giant panel losses in the blue one..

but still considering a long term search for a donor for 'ol rusty blue to make it more marketable or keep [shhh, don't tell Mrs. Bee]

Your second burb actually looks really great.

Yep six and a boy. I believe the boy is 27 now. My sons in the pic are 35 and 36 now. I have a 12 year old grand daughter and 5 year old grandson that weren't born yet in this pic. Just had a thought. Maybe I should just be buried in the panel shell haha.

Ill have to find the original to see when the picture was actually taken, the info on the board pic isn't correct.
