Easy Green
 

Here is my new blazer all loaded up and making its way from Phoenix, AZ to So. IL. It was picked up this morning and is supposed to be delivered this weekend. My plan is to keep it driveable and restore close to factory with some small upgrades. Was told it only has rust on the tailgate and drivers side door under some carpet that was applied to both. Hopefully this is accurate. I've seen lots of photos of this truck and it is extremely solid. I will be removing the CB antenna and controls right away and anything that screams 1980. It has factory air that will need attention. Was told it has a 6" lift but I'm thinking it's less than that. It is in great mechanical shape and hope to start enjoying it right away. Hoping I can keep better track of the build than I did on the last one.

Looks great, congratulations. "De-CBing" my Jimmy is next up on the project list: two non-factory 8' antennas plus 4 antenna hold-down clips drilled into the sides of my truck.

Got a call with a very nice surprise today, the trucker said he would be here to drop off the blazer around 11:30 pm. A little late for me but I didn't care and 4 days before it was supposed to be here. Of course I couldn't leave it alone once it was in the garage so I took off every decal that was on it. Let the fun begin!

It is a factory medium olive color. I'm not sure what this color is called exactly. The paint is in pretty good condition, but has its share if scratches and small dents. The interior is still factory color, but they painted the outside of glove box black. Just had the body cleaned up and buffed today. I'll get some pictures of that up tomorrow in the day light.

I haven't done a whole lot to it yet, but so far I have removed the KC lights that were attached to the windshield and the 2 KC lights that were mounted to the chrome push bar. I will most likely sell these. I replaced both wiper blades and 2 front parking light bulbs. I removed the CB radio/antenna and any of the extra wiring that has seemed to remain useless. Oh, and the biggest change, I took the wheels and tires off the old blazer and put them on the new one. I am still trying to figure out the lift on easy green, and if I want to go bigger. I measured from ground to top of rear wheel well and it was 40" before I did anything to it, it had new 33" tires on it. My 71 had a 6" lift with these 35" tires and rear wheels measured 44". After switching tires, rear wheel wells are at 41 1/4." I have a brand new (well 10yrs old, but no miles) 6" tuff country lift that I am thinking about switching with my 71 blazer before I sell it. I'm not sure it is going to be worth the effort. But, I think it may be needed with these Mickey Thompsons. Sorry for bad pic. Light in garage isn't very good.

It looks very similar to mine. My SPID says Dark Olive. I think the paint code was 506*

That's weird they would paint the outside glove box black. Maybe that part came off another blazer or something.

Would you mind posting a picture of how your push bar is mounted? I have one powder coated black that I might use, but have no clue as to how it goes on. It came with the truck when I bought it, but because of the winch the push bar wouldn't fit so it just sat in my garage for the last 8 years

Luckily the push bar is using the factory bumper bolt holes for mounting. The bracket does wrap around bottom of bumper and bolts to frame. I'm still undecided on whether I want to keep the push bar or not. I'm waiting until I put a correct grill back in to make decision. What do you guys think?

I'm on the fence too. I like the idea it could protect the front end in some instances. I'm not big fan of chrome, but that's my own personal preference.

Did these come as a dealer add on option or was this something guys just added to their truck?

I actually have another push bar that needs to be painted black. I wonder if it would look better. I'm not sure if they were dealer option or not. One of the POs mounted 2 chrome tow hooks to it which I like. Not that I will ever use them but it looks tough.

After seeing my paint in the sun, do you feel that it is close to your dark olive? I'm not sure I've seen dark olive in person, so I have nothing to compare to. Some day I want to repaint but not sure if I want original medium olive color. Thought about the dark olive. But that will be when I have nothing else better to spend my money on.

When it's in the garage it kind of does, but in the sun I would say no. Keep in mind, 90% of the paint on my truck is original except for the passenger side rear quarter when it was in an accident in the late 70's. So I'm not even sure what Dark Olive looks like new.

I almost want to say your's is in between. I know they had some color codes that were medium green and dark green, which might be how they repainted yours.

The black push bar might bring out the chrome and with the green it could look really good.

It has been awhile since last update because I haven't really done much but drive it. I have been on the hunt for parts and have collected a lot of them. I have decided to change the interior back to original parchment color. I picked up factory rear interior panels, front door panels, and seat belts, new saddle dash pad and saddle/billet steering wheel. I also bought a hickey roll bar and interior spare tire carrier with hardware, repair panel for center dash and new instrument bezel. I have brand new bumpers, front inner/outer grill (from previous build), most weatherstripping, and a lot of other misc. parts. Now, to find time to work on it!

I did pull the old front bumper and grill off to find that when they repainted, they didn't even bother to pull anything off. All trim was masked and paint shot. The front fenders and hood are not original to this truck, I'm very curious as to why, because of how clean this thing was. So for now I am going to have someone paint inside the fenders and the front part of fenders to match rest of truck, before I put new stuff back on.

I also took out old radio and aux. lights and switches. I can't believe this thing hasn't caught fire or how it still runs after removing so many wires. Also, Someone really hacked up radio hole. I do have repair panel, but a little nervous about repair.

Not sure how you work on it upside down :lol: But sure like the Blazer and the Green is really nice, tires seem to fit good too, sure looks good. Good buy for sure.

Removed.... I have a non-AC dash to repair radio area with. I have enough material to go from under pad to bottom of dash and glove box opening to cluster opening. I would have to make a hole for ac vent. I would like to go this route so I have a nice smooth dash without a bunch of bondo to smooth things out, not to mention the number of holes that were drilled for multiple things. Or does anyone think it would be easier to just repair right around radio and weld in the holes? Either way the whole dash will get fresh paint and repaint outer glove box.
