seperating pistons and rods
 
whats the best way to get them apart...i tried tapping the pins out but got nowhere.thanks

You have to have them pressed out by machine shop. They will also install the new pistons if that's what you need to do. Don't try to whack them out. You'll ruin both the pistons and the wrist pins.

68gmsee is right. They are actually what is called an "interference fit" meaning that the pin is bigger than the hole in the connecting rod. The small end of the rod must be heated in order to get the pin either in or out.

Get a large caliber rifle and fire right at the pin! Preferably with a .50cal
Just kidding. Take em to your local machine shop I don't think theyd charge you much to push em out

You need a press to get them off the rods. The machine shop can use a rod heater to install the pistons or I have a special OTC setup that reaches inside the piston and holds the rod and presses the pin through without damaging the piston.
