Power Steering Conversion

Installed serpentine setup from a ‘93 GMC. And wondered what might have been used to connect the power steering pump which utilizes a metric fitting to the 3/8 SAE fitting on the stock pressure hose? Any input would be appreciated.;)

If you have an old style pump kicking around you can screw the fitting out of the back of the pump and install one with the flare fitting.

Replace the metric fitting in your new pump with the U.S. fitting from your old pump. I used a pressure hose from a '74 K10 350, Car Quest P/N 35525.

I just went through this myself on my 67 C10. I tried to get custom hoses made but no shop around here would touch it. You can get adapters but while I am not above it they are not my first choice. Like what was said before use the power steering pump supply hose fitting from an old pump if you have one. I did not and bought a new one off of Ebay for $24 and it is doing fine. Plus you can use easy to find original hoses.

Re: Power Steering Conversion

I’ve been checking what B.R. said. Got me thinking, surprise, surprise. In any case I had already purchased an adapter 16mm 1.5 with the other end being 3/8 SAE female. Used the brass adapter from the old pump. But had seepage. So was trying to find an adapter to do away with the one from the old pump. Found out that I could get a pressure hose with 3/8 male fitting (pump side) and the 7/16 male for the steering box side. Will let all know how this works out Mon. Thanks again for the help, and inspiration.:metal:

Re: Power Steering Conversion

I ended up purchasing what they called their LS conversion fitting for the power steering pump from Dirty Dingo in Arizona. It is a 16mm1.5 adapter that threads into the late model pump. The other end is a female inverted 3/8 SAE flare fitting. Then went to Car Quest and bought the p/n 35523 pressure line. It is one of two listed for the truck. It has male fittings on both ends one is 3/8 the other 7/16. Eliminated one fitting which is one less place to have a leak develop. Also will not rest on or near the block. The other hose listed for our trucks has a female 3/8 fitting on one end and the 7/16 male on the other which is what I initially was dealing with. Just a FYI!
