Drive Shaft Length Problem

I'm getting close to having a new drive shaft made for my 71 4X4 crew cab I'm building and I'm running into issue with length and slip yoke. I have Advanced Adapters transfer case with flange 1350 U joint and 14 bolt rear end with 1350 U joint. The slip yoke will have to be in the drive shaft. I talked to Paul at Rossi's and he said he does not know where to get slip yoke to build a drive shaft 78" long out of aluminum. I would have to install 2 piece shaft. What are you guys doing for long drive shaft.

Paul is "right on", you will need a 2 pc shaft for that lenght;) if you look at critical speed vs lenght....you will find that around 68-70" is about max for a 1 pcs shaft. They will tend to "jump rope" (whip) @ speed. Longhorn:chevy:

Re: Drive Shaft Length Problem

I've heard that some 2008 and above Chevy trucks with crew cabs have a very long single piece driveshaft -around 80 plus inches. They are aluminum and pretty thick. Something like 4 inch inside diameter.

Check some salvage yards and if you find one have it shortened and balanced.

Re: Drive Shaft Length Problem

You're just going to have to mount a carrier bearing and go with a 2pc shaft.
