a REAL 1966 C10 Barn Find

Well, just when you think all the good "barn finds" are gone, another reveals itself....I started trying to buy this one owner 45K original mileage dry barn stored 1966 pickup when I was 22 yrs old and I am 47 now. Thanks to some valuable recon by fellow 67-72chevytrucks board member Mike Cofield, I finally got it (Thank you Mike!!). This truck is solid as a rock and factory Black & White (530 paint code) to boot. It was parked in 1986 and has 45K original miles. The original owners grand daughter is currently trying to find the original bill of sale and other dealer sales documents she recently found but has misplaced - but the protect-o-plate was still in the owner protection guide along with the owners guide still in the glovebox so that was very lucky. Factory 283 V8 w/ 3 speed on the column, deluxe guages, Custom Cab and Custom Comfort packages, and came with a radio although someone swapped it for an aftermarket radio in the early 80's. I've personally never seen nor had a 60's truck of all the ones I've had that was so untouched and completely as it came and in such crazy well preserved condition - even both cardboard visors and cardboard gas tank cover are near mint. I am going to preserve it just as you see it - as a survivor "patina" truck. With the engine sitting so long we are letting the cylinders and valves soak for a week in penetrating oil before trying to turn it over. I love this truck and cannot believe I have it at long last - see what you think....these pics are how it was found with 31 yrs worth of barn dust all over it. Next set of pics will be after cleaning it up a bit....

Hard to believe there are no tears in the factory deluxe seat, and the fawn paint inside the cab and even on the bottoms of the doors is in near mint condition....

Here are some shots of it after the barn dust was removed. I couldn't stand the ugly western wheels and immediately replaced them with correct steel rims and factory hubcaps

a few more showing the correct hubcaps added once she made it to my shop for more dry storage while we operate on the engine to get it free and carb rebuilt, etc and running. All that is next.

NICE FIND! And Congrats!!!!

I find it incredibly interesting that the white paint rusted away, while the black remained so good.

Wow, nice score. I agree that it will look great preserved... But... I think you should redo the white top. Use a flattening agent, it will look great with the black.

Congratulations! Looks like a keeper. Your actually luckier to find it now, you appreciate the originality more. If you bought it 25 years ago, you probably would have sold it for peanuts a few years later.

GREAT find Steve ! Will be interesting to see how much paint comes back. Looks like it has very good potential . I have a mint black take off tailgate for that truck but would only trade for the same in a GMC black gate ( need two ) If you find one some day.

thinking you may want to re seal the baseball cap on the front. the original sealer is probably decades past its life and we all see how they rust once compromised.

congrats and good luck.

You are right Jay - I am planning to have a shop re-do the white in a correct patina low gloss to flat method that preserves the "look". Can't see painting the Black which is patina'd so well and so straight etc
