1970 Jimmy

Picked up a 1970 GMC Jimmy

First order of business is to get her back on the road with a small budget.
-Remove seats and leaf blow out the interior (done)
-Drive train from donor (99 suburban vortec 350 4l60e)
-New wiring
-Seats redone. Don't think I can keep original blue with white/black scheme. Thinking houndstooth is an obvious choice
-Frame POR15
-Paint inside and out. Back to original white on white with black top.
-Brakes. Note to self "don't forget brakes". Disc conversion of some sort.
-New hood (bought with truck)
-Restore top (hmmm not sure why since it will never be on it)
-Bumpers. Might need some of those. Deciding stock vs steel winch type. She will get used lightly off road. Chassis Unlimited?
-Roll bar. Simple or full. Hmm. Still deciding
-Remove many PO messes.

This was an original 4 speed manual. Is has a poorly done auto conversion. Thinking I would stay the course since I have an auto in the donor and it would be more convenient but I am willing to take some heat if you guys think its a bad move.

Top restoration. One large crack by rear hatch and front has significant chips. Not sure why I care that much since I hope it will just sit in the rafters.

Well more to come as I have time. Might be a while as I tend to tinker until my mind is made up on everything

You got some work ahead of you...lol....Take your time and it will all come together....I usually stick to the basic repairs that don't cost much that has to be done while deciding on a direction for the build..Can't wait to see this progress

Interesting it has a single wall top. Was it modified to fit it?

Being new to this I was not aware that the Jimmy I have came with a double wall. How was that determined? I hope that they modified the rails to accept the single if that was the case. It could be super glued to the rails for all I know. PO(s) made a few interesting choices

Thanks Joe. Hope to see you on the 101 soon.
