My 71 4x4 Suburban.

Just picked up this 71 chevy suburban a couple weeks ago. Got a long road ahead for body work mainly on the inside. Just ordered a replacement spare tire tub, since the original one has the tire holding in by a thread. I've been tinkering with some general clean up of the interior parts. Just finished repainting the side mirrors. Rewired the temperature gauge, The nice thing is it has a 350 crate motor in it with around 50k miles on it. 4x4 with a dana 44 front end, NP 205 tranfer case and a 12 bolt main. The color isn't origianal but i'm debating on keeping it that color once i'm finished.

My goal is to restore as many of the parts that it came with as possible, the gentlemen that sold me the truck included lots of spare goodies to help finish the build, including a whole front clip to turn it into a GMC truck front end.

Thanks I went to the Puyallup fair grounds again this weekend for there swap meet. It can get real expensive quick with what they had there today. Picked up some more replacement goodies. New front :chevy: grill, tail light lense to replace the shattered one, a set of headers and a puller tool kit. Couldn't pass up the deals today.

I was going to go to that because I need a new gauge housing (chrome bezel) but I had too many other things going on. Plus I probably would have spent money I shouldnt =)

This weekends project was to replace the steering wheel and clean up the steering column. I sanded down and repainted the column and installed a steering wheel I refurished.

Great work on the wheel....I have a couple to work on...how tough is it really?

Re: My 71 4x4 Suburban.

The steering wheel itself requires a moderate skill level to complete. I wet sanded the wheel to prep it for paint, making sure to mask off the metal surfaces prior to paint because they are your contact points for the horn assembly. As far as the column its self, to do it properly you need more than one person to help you do to the fact that you have several fasteners to remove, plus the steering shaft is a small diameter not supporting it properly could severely damage the shaft.

Nice suburban!!! I'm not to far from you actually in Everett by Boeing haha...

I was gonna enter my truck into that Relay for Life car show at Cascade HS but my truck had to go back into the body shop AGAIN because they messed up the line where the red meets the gold. Still might show up but with no truck.
