That is a great 2wd blazer. What are your plans for it? If you don't mind I'd like to include your pic on my 2wd blazer page (see my sig).

Wheels are 20's up front and 22's in back, I cant remember the exact tire size off the top of my head and the trucks over in my shop so I'll have to check and post again tomorrow. The LCA's sit pretty much on the pavement, it will drag them if Im rolling with it layed out, but the tires will rub the inner fenders also. With the bags aired all the way down the inner fenders are resting right on top of the tires. I'll try and get some better pics tomorrow from the side and from underneath the front so you can see how low the crossmember and the lower control arms are. Heres another pic, its the best I have on this computer right now, I'll try and get some more tomorrow.

Thanks. The truck is actually just shot in grey velvaseal right now, but it looks kind of shiny in that pic. The wheels up front are 20x8.5 with 5.25 backspacing and the tires are 255/35/R20's. Im actually wanting to put some steel wheels on it and thats how I came across this post. From what I've read some 15x6 steelies from a Chevy van might work with the drop spindles. Is that correct or does anyone have experience with steelies on a bagged truck with drop spindles? If you do can you tell me where I can get some or what I need to look for? Im wanting to give the truck a ratrod/shoptruck look and the big chrome rims just dont fit the bill. I took this pic today of the lower control arm with the truck aired all the way down.

Yep, 15x6.5 van ralleys work w/drop spindles no problem. The 'skinny' ralleys came on GM vans from the mid 70's until the mid eighties so they should be easy to find in almost any wrecking yard.

I don't know why you would want dscs all the way around. I'd stick with discs in front and drums in the rear. Your '71 should already have discs in front, I believe.

Thanks shifty for the link, it does have discs in front and drums in back not going to change any of that, only mentioned that it had front discs and coil springs all round cause I thought it would have had some effect on what system I would need to be looking at.
I'm green as grass on all this stuff don't even know what notching the frame is all about.

Cheers mate.

Long story short?

This is what it means to "Notch" your frame - this is a typical bolt-in notch like the one that CPP sells:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=195566

The main purpose is simple: If you pull the springs out of your truck and slap an airbag in their place, when you completely dump the air out of the bag, your axle tubes are going to smack right into the bottom of the framerail before the bag is fully deflated. As long as you have a bump-stop on the frame, it only matters if you really care about getting that extra inch or two of drop that the notch will provide for you.

BUT ...most guys figure, if they're going to spend the little bit of time and money to upgrade to the smoother, more adjustable ride that bags offer, might as well take full advantage and 'notch' the framerail so the axle will tuck up INTO the framerail when the bag is fully deflated, and the truck will have a great slammed look.

A couple of additional points to make:

For the record, whether you notch or don't notch, you need to put a bumpstop either on the bottom of the framerail or on the bottom of the notch, just to make sure you NEVER have metal-on-metal contact when the axle tube bottoms out against either.

The rubber part of your bags should NEVER touch or rub against other parts on the truck when they are installed. This can and will lead to premature bag failure.

If you notch your frame and you're running bags, when the axle tucks up into the notch at full dump, the top of your gearbox/"pumpkin" is probably going to smack the bottom of your bed BEFORE your axle manages to "bottom out" inside the notch. Just an FYI :)

Seriously - upgrading to bags is pretty much a no-brainer effort which you can do casually over the course of a weekend, no doubt, assuming you do your homework. It's easier if you tear down to just a frame (e.g. it's faster), but it can be done with the cab still on the truck.

I think that's pretty much

tk-mpl,

I found these threads on picture posting using the "search" feature here at the forum. I used it over in the FAQ forum, which has a slew of threads about how to do everything from using the forum to truck tech to paint, to body work, etc. Give these a look:

Yea what he ^ said. Its a 3" Z with belltech spindles, 2600s and a suicide cup and plate kit. And that actually isn't even laid completely out. The monster truck tires hit the firewall.
