1969 gas tank relocation
 

i own a 1969 c-10 stepside and i have bought the brothers gas tank relocation kit and i have heard that i cant do this because the truck has coil springs can i do this and can i lower the truck and the truck has a wood bed

wow i hope that is not true because i just bought one and i asked that very same question, stepside wood floor. i have been wondering bout the taylor frame mount battery tray i purchased that looks like it is gonna be a tight fit.

1969Stepside,

Check out my post from today about the Marker Light Fill w/ Rear Tank. I used a Blazer Poly Tank (Previous Owner had it). I checked out the one from Brothers - looks the same - 45 degree fill neck on the D/S.

I like this because I do not want to get overfill gas on my nice wood bed.

BTW, I am going to bag my truck. We just did a Leaf Spring to Trailing Arms Swap.

What year blazer does it come out of? Will it bolt right up?

The tank was from a 69' blazer. Vendors/Board Members such as GMCPauls and Wes at Classic Heartbeat sell this tank, so it's readily available.

BTW, this is a bolt in item. It's actually a replacement for the behind the seat tank. This one installs between the frame rail and cross members right behind the rear axle.

The kit comes complete with mounting straps and hardware. The holes are already in the frame. Filler necks are more of a custom thing, depending on where you want to fill the tank.

I was going to get the parts from a local vendor so i was wondering on the year. I manage a auto repair facility in michigan so i get wholesale from local vendors. is there any other specific infor i may need?

does the kit come with the lines and whatnot needed to move the tank to the rear or would i need to buy them seperatly what all else would i need to relocate the tank to the rear.

i was reading the link and it said you have to add a fuel line from the cab to the tank which i knew thats kinda common sense but my question is did it come with that or did you rob it from a nother truck that had it already or what did you do for yours?

I don't believe (almost positive) the kit does not come with that fuel line. I was thinking about running my fuel line like that - from the cab to the back but I think the travel is too long. Thats a long way for the gas to travel without alot of pitch. I could be wrong, but I was think that there would always be gas in that long line.

so then how would you run the gas line i know you have a short bed but i have a long bed.

thanks if you find it first thatd be awesome ive been doing a search but havent been able to find anything on. also was looking for what people did on the filler neck with out doing it behind the tail light or side marker. i know they have caps that fit flush in the bed thats what id like to do. ill keep searching. also wanted to see of other alternative to lines like can i run different aterials or just the steel lines or whatever. thanks for your help.

as soon as i can find info on the fuel line im gonan put my order in for one of those.

Here's a thread that is currently posted. Board Member - tdave00 (Scroll down till you see his post) shows how another Board Member - SatcoJim did his fuel fill in his fleetside bed. This is nice:

He shows his fill in the middle of the bed, probably a fuel cell but I am sure this could work with the blazer tank. Be creative.

Here's a couple of other ideas for fleetsides. I'll track the threads down.

One had the fill cap in the rear D/S Stakebed hole with a Cool Cap from Air Ride Technologies

Another had a flip down rear D/S Tail Light.

Another had a fuel neck fill coming through the rear D/S fender

i love the flushmount cap from cool cap. thats the route i was thinking about going. thank you so much for your time spent.

i already shaved my side markers on front and rear so i cant put it in there haha.

I went to the junk yard and got the fuel line from under a long-bed 1500 work truck (chevy-88-98). I kept the inline fuel filter and just cut the line to length. A few extra bends and violla.....blazer tank under a short-bed stepper with side marker filler.

While we're on the subject here.

Is anyone else having starvation issues with the rear blazer tank relocation? I did this on mine a while back, and since then have noticed the fuel filter will not completely fill up. It always just has a little gas in it.

With my Holley carb, it never was an issue. But right before I tore my truck apart, I replaced the holley with a q-jet (just to see if it made a difference on mileage, yes but small) and it will starve at about 4000rpm in second gear. I mean it'll fall on it's face and stumble until I let off, then it'll go again. I'm assuming at this point it's because the q-jet doesn't have the storage capacity that the holley does (bowls). But then, there have been a few times with the holley that I have done WOT runs for over two miles (don't tell DPS, lol) with the holley, and no starving there either. I'd think in that distance it would use up what's in the bowls. And it never starves when driving normally with either carb.

FYI, My fuel filter is before the new stock mech. pump. I ran all new 3/8 steel lines from the tank to the pump. Vent is good/open. All seems to be in good working order.

Any ideas?

I'm seriously considering installing an electric pump under the truck since the mech pump is actually above the fuel level of the tank. I know this will fix it, just curious if anyone else has this issue.

Uhhhh....Got me?!?!?! I started at the cab and connected it to the stock metal line with a rubber 'splice', and did the same at the tank. No actual fittings except at the filter....and that is stock 88-98.

Can I ask what you got the donor gas door and filler assembly from? That is exactly what I want to do to my Stepper!
