1986 swb bagged and bodied build thread

Well I have been a member on here for quit sometime, I don't post much just read and get info. I have been in search of a good clean truck to build for a long time, it's been my dream to build a square body short bed to drive and show. I finally came across a 1 owner, Texas truck. It is a red 1986 Silverado all power options and 100% original truck. It came with a 305 and turbo 350, I got the truck not running but with a few hours of work I got it to start. My plan was to start out with a 4/6 drop and some billets....Well that spiraled out of control quickly and jumped straight to bagging and body dropping it. I have pics from along the way and way and will update as I go. The truck was very straight with a cool patina. The bed and hood were buffed and look real cool, we are gonna finish buffing it and re install all the chrome and trim after we get it rolling. I plan to paint it later but would like to enjoy it this year, as I sold my other toy/show car to build this. Well on to the pictures lol

Here is when I went to look at the truck, then when I got to take the truck and get it unloaded at the house. We are also in process of building our new shop at the house a 30x40 so had to park it out in the dirt and do a little work there while they poured our slab.

Like I said I was gonna start off just dropping it for time being, but as it sat there I decided to go for what I wanted to do and start now. So I tore the front end off, and then loaded it up and took it to my good friends shop where we started bagging it and pulling motor to Z it.

Got some metal to box in frame so we cut bottom off to body the truck, also got some tubing to build link bars. Was undecided on how to do the rear at first, was gonna do a tow link but now we are most likely doing a 4 link. Also got the bed off and tore the truck down more.

Finished up the Z up front, got the front of frame dropped back down in front. Not setting it all down been trying to get all the negative camber out so I can drive the truck extremely low.

Started building my rear notches and doing the measuring. Set the frame on the ground to check clearances. Had a little more camber then wanted so doing some more figuring and messing with the frame. Also picked up a good used York for my EDC

Finally decided on wheels. Us Mags hustler wheels 22x8.5 and 22x11 with spike lug nuts. I think they will look good. I was gonna go really deep dish big billets but decided to put more money into getting the truck going and settle for these for now.

Oh yeah, I got a great friend helping me with this whole build. He is doing the welding and using his shop right now. I am in process of building my shop at same time as building the truck!

Thanks, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do. Got a good buddy that runs a wheel shop here in Abilene and he hooked me up very well on these!

Yeah I know a lot of people do have them, but I hadn't seen them on to many squares yet. Also no one where I live have them. But I plan on changing them out next year for something crazy.

Re: 1986 swb bagged and bodied build thread

I just got to say that I don't think your choice of the wheels are settling by any means.
I think they look really nice and would look even better tucked under than red patina.
There is a reason some things are purchased by the masses. It because they are cool.

Well got a little further this weekend, been working on the truck when I can. But had a lot of my weekends spent finsihing my shop, but luckily it's almost all the way finished. Built the trans crossmember, finished front bag mounts. Trimmed fenders for the wheels, and cut floor out for trans tunnel.
