Stainless Tail Light Brackets 47-53?

I bought those fancy stainless steel tail light brackets that mount to the rear bed stake. However, when I removed the original brackets I found them to be much longer, and the holes are wider. Heck, the left side with the license plate holder looks like it's a real challenge. My originals mount toward the fender, or front side, of the stake. If I did that with these, I couldn't mount the license plate. What I've see at Jim Carter's website indicates there is a change between the 1947-1950 and the 1951-53 in how they mounted the lights because of the bumper. But it still isn't clear to me, as these are listed as fitting 1947-1953. Is there a solution? Am I missing something? What did others do?

Thanks for any replies, I bought my 1951 in July 2016 and named her Mabel. This is my first post.

Welcome from over in the Yakima Valley.
Cassic parts shows left and right for 47/53 and different brackets entirely for 54.

What Jim Carter has looks the same as what Cassic has http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/cart/i...ckets&station=

47-53 definitely mount to the end side of the stake pocket.

54-55 taillights definitely mount to the fender side of the stake pocket. (these are 54-55 taillights, and I custom made the bracket with a license plate bracket)

Thanks!

Yeah I bought the same brackets for my '51 as 49-561 and 49-562 in the classicparts.com catalog, except stainless and from a different vendor. It appears I can attach them to the rear of the stakes but the plate bracket (and thus the plate itself) come inside too far and either interfere with the tailgate (if mounted too high) or with some custom tail lights I have in the roll pan (if mounted low). I also end up with open holes and rust where the original was mounted. Was expecting the new brackets to swap right over and cover the same area. I'm going to look into getting some angle aluminum or aluminum plate to make a custom bracket so I can mount them in front of the stake. I wonder if anyone has tried this...

From looking at the offerings of several vendors it looks like the piece the plate actually bolts to should be centered on the upright or slightly offset to the left. Maybe the new guy installed it backwards or offset to the right if it is welded on. It would be interesting to see it held up against one known to be right for comparison.
