Old school mags

Been looking at wheels that would be correct for the 56' (not to modern) I like the old style 5 spoke mag but can't find in 6 lug, anybody know of any? Checked mostly on American Racing site, only available in 5 lug.

They didn't make any that I know of. Early alloy wheels for six lug would be slot mags and I don't remember seeing mags on trucks until the mid 70's unless it was a 53/56 F100 or and AD or TF with a hub and axle swap.
If I ever find the albums with my rod run photos from Texas in the early 70's I can probably put more light on it. Thing was then that most rod runs were 48 and earlier only with the F100 clubs often being invited and exempt from the pre 48 rule.

The wheels you see on Hogfarm's truck here are what you would normally have seen as far as "mags" go in the early 70's Either in as cast with a polished rim, polished or painted as his are. In the 50's and earlier there were no mag wheels except some real mag wheels on real race cars and a few high end sports cars. in the early 60's some showed up an around 1965 or so you saw Cragers, Keystones and the cast five spokes show up on street cars along with a lot of chrome reverse wheels.

I just got to thinking, since I am a month short of being 71 (THS Class of 65) Old school is 50's/60's to me. If you are younger it may be 70's /80's or even later. If you are trying to build a period correct build you need to find a bunch of rod magazines from that particular time frame and start cataloging the details as what wheels were used and what other trinkets were used or not used.

Looking for wheels as pictured above, guess if I want them bad enough I'll have to change to 5 lug which I am trying to avoid as everything is new installed by the PO. Here's what's on it, to gaudy and modern I think. OT but had a guy pinstripe the Chevrolet on the tailgate yesterday, thought I'd share

You cant get five spokes for 6 lug the bolt pattern doesn't work with only five spokes. You can get American Racing 6 spokes in 6 lugs. But they are the newer model. Here is a set on Tim Christians GMC.

You might consider a set of nicely polished slotted mags. They are period correct and can be had in 6 lug.

OH boy, the gaudy bling wheels. Can't blame you a bit there those are what the local tire stores sell to the owners of late model truck who aren't who aren't real truck guys but want to look like one.

I found out that you can play around on the American wheel site a bit and see what they look like on the truck http://www.americanracing.com/wheel/...9-ansen-sprint That is the Anson sprint style slots.

They are 17 inch but take a look at Crager 61 C S/S 6 spoke wheels.

You would want to do some serious price shopping as you would on any wheel though.

Not bad either, 17" might look a little big, wouldn't want any bigger than 17

Re: Old school mags

Even a 16 like that woudn't be bad bit the pickings are rather slim for 6 lug that are presentable on old trucks. Tons of terrible looking 6 lug wheels though.

Some guys might not even notice that the Cragers were six spoke.
