My '53 project - Dime time

Well I needed this project like I needed another hole in the head. I've been keeping an eye on my great grandfathers '53 for some time now. Knew the guy who had it and was only going to use it for parts for his '53. Over a year ago I offered to find him the parts he needed for his to keep the family one whole, and he was cool with that. The other day he showed up asking about my side business and said there was another project. So I asked how much for the both 53's and the s-10 frame he had and was shocked when he said $1500 for all. Not the best time for me but couldn't pass them up. Here's the pics. The green one is in the better truck, but the black one was in the family.

It's nice when family comes home ....
I was thinking the same thing about CLR on the green one. I saw a thread some where about a guy using CLR on a surface rust vehicle and was amazed with the outcome

GRIMSS, The coloring of the green one is great. It's looks like it is in great shape for its age.

I would almost guarantee there is green paint under all that surface rust that is begging to come out.

Yep got them home this weekend. Only took 3hrs to get both trucks and the frame home by myself. Only had to put air in one tire. The rest had been up for over 2 years. Kind of crazy.

Not going to do any cutting on the green one other than get it on the s10 frame.

Where is the thread on the CLR. I don't really want to do anything to the way it looks but let me see what it does.

This thing is crazy nice. It was worth way more than I gave. The only bad rust that I found was in the toe board area, and it's not that bad.

My thoughts exactly. I could not believe how much paint still lies undernead surface rust. I have been wanting so bad to find me a project with slight surface rust like yours and clean and clear and be done.

Nothing too new on this project. Been too cold and our shop has been full of tractors getting major work done. I did pull out an original Fulton visor that I saved from the scrapers on my great grandparents farm. By the way it was setup It must have been on a car. I've found online a copy of the original Fulton sunshield assembly manual and hope to have it setup right for a truck now.
