1969 Chevy CST/10 Winter Bash [2 weeks and 2 grand]
 

7am, and the morning is still cool. We jump into a friends truck, and head out.

Todays Mission: Pick up the CST/10.

So we get to the house its stored at, and back in the GMC pick up we borrowed for the day. chained it up to the CST/10, I jumped into the GMC, my dad took the CST/10. Things were tight (pull the CST/10 around a Camaro, across a drive way that goes over a ditch, and pull a tight right turn into the coldesac). No problems, nothing hit.

And off we go. No misshaps towing it to a $1 pressure washer station, besides the CST/10 front tires screching around tight corners from stops. We spray some engine degreaser all inside the engine bay, and go get some drinks while it soaks.

Coming home was almost un-eventfull, at on point the hood poped up and caught the 2ndary latch, and one motor mount vibrated out, and off (landed loudly) once we got into our neighborhood.

the difference

Its been dubbed "OrangeCrush". My grandma stepped out, and saw it. She said "Oh my, Yall should call it OrangeCrush".

So, I dig the name. This will be a slow project, all depends on what cash I make, Ive gotta pay for it all. :whine:

Extremly, all though cleaning it cleaned all the blue paint out of the 8|350 logos on the side :lol:

Right now, just to drop a EFI 350 into it, and get it driving.

Theres 4 noticeable trouble spots on this truck. Notice by the bumper, at the very edge of the fender, rusted through. Both rockers rusted. And on the passenger A-pillar. All can be fixed with patch panels, but Ill do that once I get out of highschool, so I can fix that, and repaint it. During highschool Ive got to watch out for idiot teens parking, doors hitting, jealouse kids, and mad ex's during the next 2 1/2 years, lol.

On down the road, after its running, Im thinking a 3/4 drop. Id like to get some 17in american racing wheels, but I dont thing they have the torque thrust in a 6-lug.

I like what CST stands for, "Custom Sport Truck". If anyone knows where I can find the VIN decoder, or knows it off hand, could ya point me in the right direction?

Yeh, it shows my interior has some hope, lol. Its ragged out, the door pannels messed up, their not painted on the inside (where yours is red, mine was done black) seats torn on one side, with the foam gone. the dash pad cracked and half gone, steering wheel cracked.

I like how your doors are. Im going to take out the panels, repray them black, or what ever my choice of seats is, and then find some paint and redo the doors on the inside. Im sure I can find a similar orange just for the inside. Since the seats are so worn, we (if I say 'we', im refering to me and my dad. This is a father/son project pretty much) are going to get some late model seats. Maybe some cadillac bench seats, my dad is a Cadillac tech at a dealership, so he can get his hands on some cadi seats. The benches out of the last gen DeVilles with the arm rest that goes down, making it a comfy 2 seater. You know what I mean.

Your truck is sweet, the most inspiration is the interior. Mine is rough.

Its got an after market amp that powers up the radio for 5 seconds, then fades out. Haha, it has a short I assume, but some electrical systems work still.

I believe the maroon interior colors was a 1969 thing only. I thought that was a strange color combo when i got mine, but yours looks the same.

Maybe it was part of the CST10 package. Then again, I have seen the stock interior of a C10 to compare.

I think the purple steering wheel center is rather odd. But otherwise the color of the panels and seats are the same as mine, only mine are just faded and missing color on the door panels.

Right now, Im just waiting for a few catalogs to come in. Then I can start making a list of parts.

Well My Truck Came With Black Seat, Steering Wheel, Door Panels, Carpeted Floor,dashpad, Etc. One Thing I Dint See In Your Parts Drescription That I See In My Truck Is: The Heavy Duty Suspension.
For The Most Part Your Truck Looks Alot Like My.

One the VIN Decoder I found:
4x2, V8, 1/2 ton, 1969, Built in St Luis, and is truck # 85,901. But I dunno what the G at the end of my VIN means though, cant find that info.

Get an LMC catalog for the illustrations and exploded diagrams, then find what you need with one of the board vendors.:D

NO, MINE AINT STEPSIDE BED, WELL ANYWAYS I THINK YOUR TRUCK RULES AND I DINT KNOW THE CTS ONLY CONFIGURATED THE 6% of the trucks build in 69 wish make them rare. Whaoo!!!
You better star thinking were youre going to put the stereo speakers at, since this trucks dont really have that much space for it. I was thinking cut my doors and put some 6x9s on it. ouch!!!!! But dont tell anyone becouse cutting this trucks is "Tabu" :=) I just got couple of little ones under the seat and it sound like crapp.

Anyhoo. Theres already some crappy ones in the doors. And the amp that powers the aftermarket radio/tapedeck player for about 3 seconds, then it shuts down, restarts, plays 3seconds, etc. Lol, so I might aswell get some good speakers later on, aswell as a good radio. Id like to get the vintage style radios that have the modern stuff in them, but I cant remember who makes it... Time to go dig through my many truckin mags that are laying around to find it, lol.

Krue-already have LMC on the way, that was my 1st thought ;) Then buying through here is a good idea, if I find the price is right. Didnt think about that really.

Work done this weekend:

1. stripped the inner door panels off
2. took out the passenger side lock mechanism, it was jammed.
3. sprayed bug killer in the door due to loads of ants living in the door
4. fixed the passenger lock mechanism
5. put it back in
6. cleaned the drivers side one
7. plugged holes in fire wall to stop some of the water from getting in.
8. took off the glove box door, the hinge didn’t movie
9. hammered the dash back into shape where the door hinge had bent it
10. fixed the hinge put it all together.
11. installed NEW LOCKS on both doors
12. locked the doors (whoohoo)

The doors didn’t lock before, and didn’t have working key locks. So now you cant steal my 3-second sound system. The old amp that powers it turns on for 3 seconds, dies, turns on for 3, and dies...

Also are planning door panels and a custom grille.

The last owner did some crap job on wiring. Not the guy I bought it from, but the one before him. Wired the fuel pump to a switch under the dash, but not to say, a oil pressure switch. Also the sony tape deck thats in and amp is wire and twist nut land. Thats all going. We might try to fit a sub/enclosure from an escalade in the passenger cab corner, and some new door speakers.

We going to make custom door panels, just planing out materials and what design right now.
A few other things were thought out, and might do a few junk yard treks for head lights and such.

Thanks, a new trouble spot was found, the front cab corner on the passenger side flexes when thd door opens, so thats gotta be braced up. Other than that, its not too bad. Thankfuly :)

And then Today, was a good day. I found the 'toy store' of 60-87 Chevy trucks. Outback truck parts in Spring :o every part needed, and killer prices. So for $120 we got 2 headlight bucket adjustment plates (hard as hell to find), headlight hardware, glove box, new hindge and spring (badly needed a right one, youll see) , and then trim clips and a center A/C vent. Some stuff is for later, but you couldnt beat the price at the place...

Closes flush now! :) Before, any time you opened it, the hindge bent more and more. To the point where the hood closed and you had a near 2 inch gap at the cowl. Now its all pretty uniform all around. And finally, its not a PITA to try and lift the hood up on the emblem with one hand while the other holds the latch. Now it pops up on the 2nd latch, and lifts with ease :metal:

I envy you doing this project with your dad - you'll both get to learn about each other. I heard this somewhere else and it makes perfect sense - "When I was 14, my dad had no clue what was going on in the world, when I turned 21, I couldn't believe how much my father had matured"..... Make the most of your time together - as much as it means to you now, it will mean more in the future. Stick to getting it safe, reliable and roadworthy - THEN the bling stuff. I'd recommend doing the "headlights w/relays" upgrade - you can find it in the FAQ section (from the home page, part way down - not from the top of the page) - look through the thread that is a list of all the FAQs - lots of good info.
