66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"

Well here it is, my first build thread!

I found this one on c-list > in a field > loaded in the rain > couldn't have done it with out a tractor and an awesome farmer.

I have yet to go through it but it looks to be a:
- 1966 Chevy C10
- SWB
- Custom cab trim
- V8 (283 or 327)
- Auto
- Factory A/C
- Small back window
- Power steering

It was parked 6 years ago. Was told that is was running fine when parked.... heard that before!

A few pics to begin the documentation, here we go!!!

Yeah, how did you? Lol

I want a Custom Cab SWB Fleetside truck. Right now I have a Stepside and while I am liking it more and more everyday.....I have always loved the short fleet side trucks.

It came from Cropwell, AL. Hence, the name. Just south of Pell City, home of the Butts to Go. Some of the best "gas station" BBQ I've ever tasted!

Oh & I'm glad you got a pic of the BBQ. If my wife saw "Butts To Go" on my credit card statement my butt would go......out the door & into the dog house.

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"

I finally moved the truck and trailer from the street in front of my house to the carport workspace. The natives were getting restless and I need to move the setup ASAP.

I knew getting this truck off the trailer was going to be a challenge but, did not realize it would be this bad.

The passenger rear wheel/brake/something is locked up and will not move. I have beat, cussed, oil and tried to break it loose...nothing. I figured that the weight of the truck and gravitation pressure would break it loose when it hit the ramps, but NO!

I put a wheel skate under that side and broke off one of the wheels within the first two feet.

This is total redneck, but I fastened the rear to the dumpster I have in my driveway! I then dragged the trailer out from underneath it. You think nails on the chalkboard sounds bad!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4...-no/unload.JPG

When the slope of my driveway ran out, I had to dig even deeper into my redneck bag of tricks. Just look here:

Finally in its styling chair.

Engine bay powerwashed, love that gold firewall!

Haha, that nice house is my understanding neighbor. I make a lot of racket working on cars.

Looks good. Im also a local Nashvillian.

Make sure to treat that center AC vent with care. Seems to be a hard to find part. That and the under the dash ash tray. Just seen one of those AC vents go for $255 on ebay!

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"

I got a little more done on the C10.

engine block ID- 3834810- small block 283.

I CLR'd the whole body with a green scotchbrite pad. I mixed about a 1/3 CLR with warm water and went to town. After the CLR bath, I topped the whole body with PB50. It is a surface protectant. It should keep the flash rust at bay. It gives the whole truck a cashmere, soft matte finish. Looks really cool. Also took 0000 steel wool to all of the trim pieces.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-I...82-no/roof.JPG

Now onto the drive train and brake systems. The engine has not been started for over 6 years. I was able to move the fan by hand and the engine turns over without the spark plugs in, which is a good sign.

I have the carb soaking in a pine-sol solution and will pull it in a day, then clean it up. Next, is to drain and replace all the fluids, new plugs, wires, battery and see if it fires up!

Until next time

Nice find...can't wait to see what you do with this one! Never heard of the PB50 trick before...I like the finish it leaves. That truck cleaned up real nice already.

Re: 66 C10- SWB V8 Auto AC- "Cropwell"

on the carb cleaning , I read something the other day about soaking old carbs and even boiling them whole in a lemon juice / water mix to clean them up in cheap environmentally friendly way. :mm:
I have not tried it yet. Have not heard of the pine sol trick

Love the Patina and the color. I am hoping it fires right up for you. Have faith mine sat for 10 years. Did everything your about to do and it fired right up.

I even soaked my carb in Pine sol. It worked great except it took the anodizing off of my linkage oh well. I didn't have a choice. Here is what mine looked like

And after the rebuild.
