Okay so I thought 1980 were rectangle headlights only.... I just bought a 1980 short wide bed that is round headlights from the original owner who bought it in 1980 he says the head lights were like that when he bought it ........so did 1980 come with round headlights

The silverado trim level got the square lights, the lower trim levels used round lights.

This is correct.

You could also opt up to the rectangle lights via RPO V22 (Uplevel Grille).

I bought one new in 80.
It was a Custom Deluxe with round lights.
The Silverados had 4 rectangular lights.

4 headlights didn't come around until 1981. 1980 still used two headlights, either round or square depending on the trim package as stated in the above posts.

Re: 1980

This round headlight vs square headlight deal has been long misunderstood. All 1980 Silverados included rectangular lights because the YE9 option for the Silverado automatically included the V22 chrome or upgrade grille option. However, the V22 grille upgrade could have been selected for all the lower trim levels over all of the years squares were produced where the round headlight was base. There were no mid year grille changes. Chevs and GMC had the same option packages that gave the same result. Now you are unlikely to find a V22 optioned Custom Deluxe as people bought the CD because it was the least expensive but it was possible. In some years the V22 was chrome plating (ie 73/74) whereas other years GM added a polished stainless steel strip or three. In 1981 GM went to the two / four rectangular headlight with two lights being the base and 4 lights being the V22 as well as refinements to the grille.

This is correct (as stated in post #4 & 5, albeit with fewer words).

The blue '80 pickup that I posted was a Scottsdale with V22 added. We always ordered a Scottsdale trim level so we could get the vinyl flooring, manual windows and locks, but could opt up for better exterior appearance.

That's what I did in '87 as well.

Thanks for posting the excellent photo chart. The design of these trucks clearly went down hill after 1980.
