Thinking of lowering my 2000 silverado 1500 4wd
 

So long story short everything I've owned in the past 12 years has been lifted so I'm thinking of going the other way. The truck is a 2000 z71 and has 3" blocks in back (in place of factory 2" blocks) and torsion bars cranked all the way up by previous owner. Obviously I can pull the block and be 3" lower out back but what about the front? Can I "decrank" the bars that much? I'm guessing they gained about 2 inches by cranking them all the way up. I'm not looking to go crazy low here as I still intend to use this as a truck. Just looking for some advice here on a good budget friendly and safe setup. I'm planning on running a set of tahoe ltz 20s with some 275/60/20 tires.

Yes, you can decrank the front, and your truck will ride a whole lot better. I bet you have some pretty nasty front end angles, that leads to worn out ball joints and idlers and pitman arms. You don't need any special tools other than a ratchet and proper socket. Lower them equal turns, check your measurements, drive it around the block, and re check and adjust as needed. If you need to go back up some, jack the truck up and let the front suspension droop before tightening the bolts any, if not they can snap in the key. There is a sweet spot you want your front end in and I'm including a link from Duramax forum, although HD's are involved the front end set up is similar enough it will all make sense.

Can I decrank lower than factory or will that unload the torsion bars too much?

yes you can go lower that stock. You could pull the bolts out all of the way if you wanted.

First I would remove the rear blocks and then I would loosen up the torsion bars and experiment till you are happy with the ride height and how it drives... Then take it in for an alignment or the tires will wear funny...
