TBI Straight 6
I'm planning to make adapter plates to put TBI on 6 cylinder intake manifolds, I'm wondering which manifold people would like to use. I can make it for the Monojet, which would probably work great, but I think the Varajet might work better. What do you guys think?

I'm looking to do this conversion eventually (too many projects in front of it LOL). My issue with the 2bbl set up is that it only came on the integral head. Where I was headed was a Clifford 4bbl water heated intake with a custom adaptor. Then I could use one of my other heads. The Monojet intake looked to need a bunch of machining to get rid of the shape mismatch of 1bbl to essentially 2bbl.
Let us know what you end up doing. Some of us might be interested in buying a couple of copies for our own projects! |

I didn't realize the varajet was only on the later engine with the integrated intake head. Yuck. I think I'll machine up an adapter to put TBI on a monojet intake. I know it seems silly to choke a 2bbl TBI down to 1bbl, but if you're just looking for the benefits of TBI this would be an easy way and it will still flow better than the 1bbl carb did.

I would go with the TBI myself. You can already do such with a 4bbl intake with a TBI adapter. A TBI setup for a 4.3L would be a good setup on a 4.1 I6.

I am about to start a TBI conversion on a 1970 250 that i put in a 85 chevy k2500. I took all the TBI setup off a 1990 chevy 1500 305. I am going to use a stock 250 HEI dist. and a Tbi ignition module. does anyone have any pictures of a TB to monojet manifold adapter plate?

No, but I would be very interested in your ignition set-up. Howell sells one for this conversion for $250, but I'd like to see someone do a low buck version using factory parts.

D13, The ignition set-up is very easy, all i am doing is gutting a stock 250 HEI dist. (removing the advance spings, weights and module) then tack weld the top so nothing moves(eliminating the mech adv.) after that just run the 2 wires from the pick-up coil to a stock GM TBI ignition module so all timing is computor controlled. don't forget to unhook the vac adv.

So essentially you've converted to a 7 pin module outside the distributor, resued the stock HEI pick-up and locked the distributor timing, right?
Hmm, i was going to do some machine work to mate a 4.3 distributor to the 250 lower section, Your way looks a lot easier. The poor fit of the 2bbl TB to the Monojust was why I was looking to go Clifford, use a water heated manifold (help the fuel atomization here in MI) and then make a very simple mounting plate to bolt on their 4bbl base (I actually think someone sells this, but it's not very hard to make one with 1/4" alum plate, drill, and sanding roll). I'd also get the better fuel distribution of the Clifford manifold. |
